I'd still like to see a PC version of OS3.0 ... a disk-based version of the ROM (512k) plus the contents of the Workbench, Extras, Fonts and Locale floppy (880k + 880k + 880k + 880k) and there you have it, an operating system in just over 3MB.... and not a bad one, either. The owning company, Amiga, Inc., has abandoned the idea of a special Amiga computer that runs a special Amiga operating system, in favour of a better idea - although they are leasing the hardware technology to 3rd party developers who will be making a new Amiga specifically for the new Operating System. What they are now (almost finished) developing is an Amiga Operating Environment; an Operating System that will run on ANY computer, and run Amiga software. Because coders code for the Amiga OE and not for the specific hardware, the same software should work on ANY computer (but like any other software is limited by the hardware it is running on; for example, Quake 3 (if ported to AmigaOE) will only run on computers that are good enough). This saves the programmers time and money. It is totally scalable, which means that it will run (and has run successfully) on anything from a cell phone, all the way up to a powerful mainframe computer. It can take the place of an existing Operating System (like Windows 95/98, Windows NT4/2000, or Linux), or can run as a hosted environment (load Windows then load the AmigaOE). It is also blazingly fast, wasting no processor time, and is totally memory efficient - the traits displayed of the original Amiga computers. To add on to the amazing feature-list, it also has a fully-integrated implementation of Java, allowing for the highest level of compatibility. Also notice the indentations on the bottom and top of the typewriter area.
