Nerd Boy merchandise

Hello all,

If you've been to www.Nerd-Boy.net in the past few minutes, you'll
have noticed the new "Store" link between "Fan Art" and "Links".
It leads to http://nerdboy.xepher.net/store.php and contains the
current NB designs available on an assortment of paraphernalia.

Sales and shipping is handled by www.cafepress.com so if you're
wondering about security, credit cards, shipping rates and stuff
like that, take a look at http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/
for more information.

Their 30 day guarantee is especially interesting. If it turns out
that any of my stuff comes out warped or looks awful in general,
just tell them and get your money back. Tell me as well, in case
it's not a one-time occurrence.

Feel free to pummel me with questions and suggestions. :)

This is how I -don't- want to come off. :) I just wanted to inform the
people who wanted to support Nerd Boy that there's merchandise now.

It'd be kind of cool to stand around selling stuff with Nerd Boy on them
though. Although most people would just come by and ask if there had been
some kind of error because there are all these jumbled letters and things,
and I'd say "No, that's how it's supposed to look; that's Nerd Boy", and
they'd say "I see.. 'Nerd Boy'? But.. who's that?" and I'd try to explain
and they'd just look confused and say something polite and walk away.

Its time to print up dead tree editions and start trouring the Comic
conventions. It's far better than some of the furry, manga, sci-fi,
crap that a lot of people do.
Who knows. Maybe this time next year you will have a booth right next
to Bob The Angry Flower, he only buys the cheap booths.

Frame one he seems to be happy about something, and in frame 2 he seems to have struck a "classic
pose".
I considered having him running past Mandy and Fan Boy, stopping mid set and sipping a nice hot
beverage before dashing off with a repeated display of his elation as Mandy and Fan Boy look on
quizzically. Then in a last panel Fan Boy make some comment like "He really likes coffee, doesn't
he", but since I was too busy displaying elation at the time to actually sit down and type all that
out I just posted the above two simple frames thinking that they would convey the message in a
somewhat obscure but divinable way. I take it that the 2 frames are unfathomable so I include this

I've told you before Joaquim, there's no need for this merchandising

That's too hard; this is way easier. Besides, if I'm going to talk to
a girl I'll need to be backed up by a lot of money!

Yup! The difference between free sex and sex for money is that sex for
money is usually a lot cheaper! :-)

Although wise words, that's not what I had in mind. I meant that a lot of
money might boost my nanoid self-confidence. Going up to a girl and talking
to her is easier said than done. That is, if you're not saying it to a girl,
in which case the two are equally hard.

Hehe.. "To say this sentence is easier said than done." True or false?

Go to your local printer or shiping place that prints out busness
cards. Get about 500 of them made that look like this:

            +-----------------------------------------+

            +-----------------------------------------+

Shouldn't cost more than 20 USD for 500 of them.

Go to bar on college/karaoke night. Buy beer by the pitcher and don't
worry about using a glass to poor the beer into, thats what your gut
is for. At some point your ears will buzz from the music and your
mind will buzz from the the beer. Stand up and start at one end of
the bar and give one of those cards to every girl in the place in
under 15 minutes. Find some out going guys and give them stacks of
10 or 20 to give out as well. Go out side and lean agenst the wall
for support and smoke a cig. Those guys will be your new friends (aka
they will help you get out more an break that shyness) and those girls
might just talk to you and because of the beer you will say the first
thing on your mind. And they will find it charming. If you ask
instead of state things then you might have a new best friend.
But the trick is to ask them the right questions. Not "So do you come
here often?" but more like "What are your plans for world domenation?
Do you often find that their are never enough green clovers in Lucky
Charms cerial? Do you have any embaresing birth marks that I can
see?" The more out their the qeustions the better.
And any time you have a question that you think you should not ask
just say the following to your self:
                           I must not fear.
                       Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

Repeate at a new bar every night until you master it or you are too
busy talking to girls to bother.

Not that I keep up on these things.

This plan seems to assume that I'm willing to spend some amount of
money on anything. Do you have a plan for cheap bastards who hate
the taste of alcohol and don't smoke?

It's not so much fear as it is skepticism. For example, I doubt that
the nice plan you've outlined would get me in touch with any people
I'd actually enjoy talking to. People who like alcohol tend to make
for very boring conversations, and I really can't see myself talking
to anyone who'd find a person stinking of beer & smoke charming.

If you don't want to spend any money at all there are still lots
of options open. Go to a concert with a bunch of friends. But don't
go into the concert. Stay in the parking lot and bring any props that
you may already own like a camra or a lawn chair. If you bring
friends with the right mentality to avoid boredem then fun will be at
hand no matter what.

Location location location. Who do you want to talk to? Where do
they go when they acutaly go out. Remember that only 3.6% of the
population has an IQ above 125. So there is a numbers game aspect to
the process. Ren Fairs, Goth Clubs, Mensa meetings (which are often
held in public places so you can attend without paying the
membership), Conventions of all kinds, &c. You will find people out
there that where draged allong to keep a friend company. Seek those
people out. You may have more in commen with them then you know.

> People who like alcohol tend to make

You have been hanging out with the wrong kinds of drunks. Or you have
not been taking an active roll in makeing sure that the conversations
arn't boring. Sometime the more out there the better. Thus the birth
marks questions. One of the nice things about drunk people is that
they have less inhabitions and are more likely to answer the questions
if you set them up with the proper lead in questions and attitude.

> and I really can't see myself talking

Like I said, some times people get ropped into going. Study the crowd
and find those that are odviously not haveing a good time. On
Saturday I went to a place where I knew that some of my friends go
even though I had never been there. Last night I found an email in my
mail box from one of those fringe people who I started a conversation
with. I could spend all my time with people I knew or I could have
fun talking to the girl in the wheel chair.

OK, let me add some more restrictions. What do I do when all of the
below apply?

1) This town has a population of barely 25,000.
2) Nothing ever happens here.
3) If it does, it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

And wait, there's more. How do I talk to someone who's keeping a friend
company? They're talking to each other, not me. Also, how the heck can
I do anything if I've given up before I start? I'd first have to feel the
need to do something.

8<
> Mark Twain: "Everyone talks about the weather but no one does anything
> about it"

In my case, I guess it'd be something along the lines of "hardly ever
talks about the weather and doesn't feel like doing anything about it".
Or maybe "hardly ever talks about the weather and thinks that it just
doesn't seem worth it at all to do anything about it, because sure, he
might be able to produce a few sun beams, but it'll always start raining
sooner or later".

Dammit, it's taking long to get there. OTOH, it took almost a

Hmm. Do I feel like spending money on getting a driver's license, moving
my stuff in a car I don't have, spend more money on renting an apartment
and getting some crappy job to pay for it all? Not really, I don't even
feel the need to get out of my room.

Thats the way you would do it then you need a deeper level of help.
You can plan out a NB script you should be able to find a way to
gently slid in at that perfect moment without hang on every word in
the conversation of strangers? I know you are better than that.

California.

Perhaps. I still think NB scripts are much easier, though.

I'm 22, and no, I wouldn't know. I'm a freak, I know. It doesn't
exactly help.

If I'm going to worry about becoming a mass murderer, I'd have to worry
about a lot of unlikely things. Oh, and did I mention I listen to Marilyn
Manson? Spooooky...

That's what bothers me. The only feature of relationships that I've
seen up close is the negative ones, and those don't exactly look
healthy to me. I think I'll pass.

Besides, I'm a lazy spoiled brat. Don't bother trying to talk sense
to me, I hardly know what you're talking about.

That leaves 900 people with IQ>125, of which there should be about 150
women "of age". Given mariage and divorce rates you should be able to
choose between 20 and 30. Well, if you insist for 18<=age<=24, that
would reduce to 2 to 10...

Yep. That's where you start wondering if all this sex business really
is an evolutive advantage. Seems quite costly to me. Perhaps we
should revert to mitosis, or move on to cloning.

Yeah, it's pretty cool and funny sometimes, but I don't really like it

Then don't look for girlfriends in a place where most people drink
and/or smoke. Think of what kind of girl you want to find, try to
imagine where such a girl might enjoy being, then go to that place.

This is not enough information. For example, in the north of Sweden
there are more men than women. If you're a girl and you're looking for a
macho boyfriend this is a good place. Go and look at some statistics and
figure out where you're more likely to find the sort of person you're
looking for.

You wouldn't get involved in this discussion again and again and again
if you didn't feel that need...

It doesn't matter what you Really Think about the weather. The reason
it's such a popular subject is because it's a neutral subject that
everybody can comment on and which renews itself all the time. It's a
polite way to start a conversation (it works with older relatives on
Christmas dinner too).

Getting a driver's license and a car might help.

Ask people who have girlfriends/boyfriends how they met. You can be
fairly sure that their answers will involve some amount of talking to

Heh. She'd be at home, in front of her computer, probably.

I keep getting involved in this discussion because I mentioned something
once and now David keeps bringing it up.

What? I wasn't actually talking about the weather, just as much as

So?

Maybe I'm being too subtle. To ask me that question is the same as asking
me if I'd like to be the captain of an starship. Sure, it kind of looks
like it might be fun in the movies, but is it?

Not really. The family needs my income.

How does that help me?

obascii:

So how do you like being I dunno.. I guess my expectations
the captain of the Enterprise? were way too high. Plus it's messy.

So look for her on the Internet then.

And you keep responding.

No, you were talking about talking about the weather. It's still a good
subject.

There's one way to find out...

I'll rephrase: "Yes, you do feel the need to talk to every human being
in the world on the off-chance of finding someone with something
interesting to say." (but if you have a rough idea of what you're
looking for you can reduce the number of candidates quite a lot)

And is their a local IRC group that she might be on?
Can you go to members.yahoo.com and search by location?
Is their a localized website for those 25,000 people where the
computer geeks rain supream?

Thanks Veronica. I was going to say that in my reply to him as well
but felt I was already being pushy enough.

Yes. Thats why eveyone becomes starship captins in the first place,
its th 23rd century equivalent of being a rock star.

Because you can find out where to go. What you might talk about when
you get there. &c

When Charly Brown said something like you said above, Lucie
gave a nice answer. Just look thru all of the Peanut books
and look for the above picture.

This isn't meant as an offence, but I was immediately reminded
of this comic strip by Charles Schulz (+). The answer struck
me once in my Charlybrownishness.
