If you are going to post ASCII-art _converted_ by a software, you should
say so. Many people must have been impressed when you said you did these
yourself. You fooled people. You pressed the button to convert the
picture, but didn't "draw" the art yourself. The people here are proud
of their work and take the time and effort to do things by "hand."
We don't want people wondering whether the pictures are really created
or merely converted.
If you're using a converter, let us know.

If you use a converter to create a picture in jpeg format from one in bmp format this doesn't mean that you make this picture yourself. The author of it is a photographer. And you just converted this picture from one format to other one. This action can be made by anyone. The same happens when you create an ASCII picture from graphics. Perhaps such ASCII picture is in need of some corrections and assume that you made them. But you didn't compose the whole picture by your hands - you just changed some symbols to others. Technically, it is ASCII art, but personally, I would say that it should be created by your "own fair hands", or more like your "own fair keys" cos the art part is actually creating the picture bit by bit. Its like using one of those photo editors to turn a photo into a "watercolour" and then showing it off as if you painted it your self. If you "prepare" the picture carefully before converting it you might get a better result. This "preparation" is typically done by a human. If you diddle the picture after converting it you might get a better result. This too is typically done by a human. Usually, to get a good picture out of a converter you have to do a lot of the work yourself. If you create a program that can produce something that is as good as something made by one of the best human ascii artists, then maybe you'll get some admiration. My guess is that this will probably not happen, at least not any day soon. Then there's the argument that the group enjoys, even encourages lots of "ugly" pictures. Well, pictures made by a newbie are usually not as good as pictures made by the same person a few months later. Pictures made by somebody who is not a newbie usually has that person's personal style, and some people don't like certain other people's style. A program doesn't have a personal style and it doesn't develop into an artist.
