I think it are a fine asskey cartoon, an' I are hopin' Nils will make
plenty more of them. As to the question of frogs, yes, they has been
dun afore now, afore afore, an' probable many times afore that. It do
not ree-quire no 'nowledgement to anybody to put 2 o's an' 2 ('s together.
Nils are entitled in his own rite, unless he needs give gratitude to first

I hopes he will make plenty more, an' that we shall soon be dazzled

I have first published Frogstein in a publicly verifyable way in January 1997, you can verify that yourself in the dejanews archives. Can you point me to accessible archives to prove that you drew that kind of frog before me? In spite of a call for evidence that I organized last year, there is no earlier Frogstein, there was literally zero evidence brought forward, and of particular importance, there was no independently verifyable claim of an earlier Frogstein. (There was even an assertion from Colin D who is particularly knowledgeable on the history of ascii art, that he has never seen any of the 'steins before.) But treat the above question as a pure inquiry for the moment, I am sincerely interested. ================================================================ [] [] [] /( )\ Visit the Gallery of the 'steins! Dear Pete Casso,
Well, if you still have one of 'em old Commodores C64, I could send you one of
my 5 1/4 discs with the frogs on it. I think that was in 1994. Not sure, might
have been 95...
Oh well, whatever, I just thought it was pretty stoopid to start complaining
because of some ('s and and dots. If it was like big pichure someone stole,
where you could really tell that it was stolen, that would be something else.
But it seems pretty senseless to waste my and your time posting flames about
some little frog pic.
Now, let's say I have never seen any of your frogs before. And for a comic
with a frog in it, I need a small frog, say about 3 rows high. First I draw a
pair of eyes for the frog. something like that: OO That would make the frog be
very small.
So I try something bigger: ( )( )
Ok, closer. Let's make it: (.)(.)
Cool. And now we need the rest of the face:
1. 2. 3. 4.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
(.)(.) (.)(.) (.)(.) (.)(.)
\_ / |_ | / \ ( _ )
\/ \/ \ o / \ /
looks too looks like too fat. there we
thin. shit. go.
There aren't too many ways to draw a frog in that size that looks good. I'm
sure there are lots of different ways to do it, but on the other hand: If you
made everybody in aaa draw a frog in that size, I'm sure about 90% of the
people would come up with something between very close and identical with what
you and I came up with. So I didn't neccessarily copy it from yours. Actually
I have never seen any of your frogs, which would make it pretty hard to copy
one of 'em? Don't you think so? And, maybe someone else came up with thesame
frogs you did? I don't wanna say you stole them, just ask yourself: Couldn't
it be possible that someone else had the same idea loooong time ago?
So, what you wanna say is, that everybody who uses ANY kind of stuph that
someone else MIGHT have already come up with has to ask EVERYBODY if ANYBODY
has EVER drawn something like that before? Cool idea. Would take forever to
post something, because I'm pretty sure that within the last 20 years someone
else has already published something like you just want to.
I'm not sure, cause I never read your FAQs, but did you give credit to all the
people who's ideas, figlet fonts, words and stuff you used? I'm pretty sure I
could find someone who wrote something that is pretty close to what you wrote.
Anyway, let me draw my stuph and i let you draw yours. OK?
Sincerely,
DerBluT
P.S.: I think your name is some kind of modification of Picasso. Therefor I am
not sure if it is appropriate fot YOU or anybody else to MISuse the name of
one of the greatest artist ever. Think about it.
> Dear Pete Casso, That's a nice change of tone from the past posting, thanks, and I should therefore reciprocate and say: Dear DerBlut, > 1. 2. 3. 4. > _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ > (.)(.) (.)(.) (.)(.) (.)(.) > \_ / |_ | / \ ( _ ) > \/ \/ \ o / \ / > looks too looks like too fat. there we > thin. shit. go. You own the above pics 100% if you say so, that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about Frogstein, you drew a similar pic according to your own words in your previous posting, and I need to insist on an acknowledgement if you use any 'stein pics. For examples of 'stein pics, see my web site, the URL is in my sig below, or search the dejanews archives. It is really up to the original copyright holder to assert his/her copyrights in case of a reinvention (it does not have to be plagiarism,) I am doing just that. Other copyright holders are at liberty to do the same, including those from the past. You may want to read the Copyright FAQ which is *not* my FAQ, but the FAQ of the US Copyright Office. It may prevent you from listening to bad advice. P.S. The name Pete Casso is by far from unique. I receive email inquiries from members of the Casso family every now and then, e.g. asking whether I am related to a certain John Casso (or whatever first name it is,) now living in a certain city of the US, but originally from a certain city in Italy, and the like. I have no idea how big the Casso family is, but there may well be thousands or tenthousands or hundredthousands of Pete Casso's running around on this globe :-) P.S. P.S. I just saw your latest TardVille comic, bravo! ================================================================ [] [] [] /( )\ Visit the Gallery of the 'steins! Besides which, if I recall correctly, Mr. Pete Casso Himself made the point a few months ago that the identifying points on the Frogstein are the dot behind the eyes and the quotes for feet. As DerBlut's frog has neither of these, I think it is fair to say that DerBlut's creation is in no way an infringement of Mr. Pete Casso's copyright on the 'steins. Ender
> Personally, I love the 'steins, and they are VERY distinctive - the way they > are used and the expressions put on their faces. Thanks for the nice words, Sara. But you (and Ender) may not have seen all of the 'stein characters, see below. I did not even look things up, since the above names are different from the names that I use: The 'steins, Frogstein, etc. <big sigh> I don't know how old you are, chances are that your parents are still accountable for your actions. No, for real. Don't you see, that nobody really cares what the hell we're talking about? I DON'T care if you think you have a copyright on two O's. So just quit trying to get credit for everything, won't work. The only thing this whole threat will gain is that more and mor people stop reading aaa. I don't really care what you do, but I'm not gonna keep wasting my time for some "artist" with an excessive ego. Hope NOT to hear from you, Der BluT
Maybe I was a little too fast for you. Ok, again and reaaaally slow, so everybody can understand it: If you really based that whole thing on this OO (-() frog, then you start thinking. It is NOT _your_ frog. It is a frog in a wheelchair. So the ONLY part of the real frog you can are two O's. You think you have the copyright for that? OO -> frog's eyes. (-() -> wheelchair. | | | left wheel. | right wheel. Makes sense? I've never seen a frogstein in a wheelchair before. Did you? Der BluT

That was Frogstein's head with an additional keystroke. Stop using
'stein pics, and I mean no harm to you or anyone else for that matter.
There is really no honor in wallowing in the grey areas of plagiarism as
others are doing. Develop your own distinctive style as you wrote, that
is a lot more satisfying, you have the ability, I am positive. Well, I
am done for now.

Ok, let me tell you again: OO (-() This is NOT the head of a frog. This is a frog in a wheelchair. OK? Good. The only part of the frog are the eyes. --> OO The rest are the wheels ------------------>(-() The only thing our two frogs have in common are the two O's as eyes. Fantastic machine with a tea-warmer built in... =) Remember the time when 16 kB cost you a fortune? These days 512 K's are onboard in the proc...enfin. Hmmm, hate to disappoint you there, my first program was something that looked a little like an ASCII-pacman... Though the 'ghosts' ( represented by the 'A' character) did not move and were pretty safe to bump into... It still must be somewhere on a 10000 years old casette tape in the darkest pits of oblivion. Something like this... +-------<Score 00100 - @@@>-------+ |* . . .|. . . . . .A. . .|. . . *| |.+----.|.+------ ------+.|.----+.| |.|. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .|.| |. .----+. .+---------+. .+----. .| ...wait... That's not true... The first thing I made was some Ski-slalom program! You had to move you ('#') between the flags ('P') to score points... It went on forever...(And I got bored pretty quick, though my little brother seemed to like it much better) It probably als went to that huge casette in the sky...
