     See, now here is this feller that helped me out. I are glad to know that he has a real name,
too. He and his pals on Starlink IRC network fixed up my chat program, and sent me other clever
programs that I am told Ole mostly wrote.

    You are right, Ole. Some of my post could be taken wrong. I did say color-askei-ripoff channels,
however, which you obviously do not run. I have been to your channel more than once, and never saw
anyone claiming somebody else's pictures. I also saw some totally original stuff, some of it in plain
ascii that y'all should think about posting here. I did state that decent IRC-color people shouldn't
take that post to heart, as I was not talking about them, and that I did type at a lot of polite
people. I considered everybody on your channel to be such, and thanks for the stuff and advisories
y'all done toldt me about.

    I visited around on several of the IRC networks, and stopped in all the color, rainbow, and
popup channels I saw. I am sure there are others that I missed. On plenty of them there were people
who did appreciate who made the pictures they colored, and didn't run any files that they had
ripped from anybody. Some of them ran completely original stuff, although most did not. Some
of those folks knew who I was, because I refuse to use a nickname; some accused me of bein' ah
ol' impostor of my own se'f. Some never did see no cartoons by me, until I showed them.

    I didn't bother to post about how great the people on IRC were, because what I was posting
about was an old bitch - folks who seem to be so desperate to seek some kind of "fame", they
think stealing ascey is the way to go. Myself, I see that as about the most pitiful form of
plagiary there is. Hell, if I were going to rip text from somebody and claim it for my own,
I think I would steal Willy Ley's "Exotic Zoology". My post wasn't intended to be about the
positive aspects of IRC, but a negative side where the plethora of pitiful plagiarists who pop
a preposterous plenitude of text-art pissed me off --- these are words with a P this time.

    IRC is unique in that the response you get is instant. Some people see those colored
pictures, and think they want to play them, too. They learn to do that, but are too addicted
to the instantaneousness of the media. They'd rather just steal somebody else's picture, and
claim they did it, instead of learning to make their own. There are many others who don't do
this. They properly credit the author of the pic they have colored, or learn to make their own
pictures. People like that don't bug me; the others do. Most of the folks I typed at seemed
to know where the pix they had came from, and never thought of trying to claim them as their
own. I did type at more than I wanted to, who DID do those things, however.

    I will point out that some of the IRC-color folks started telling ME about the "rules"
reguarding crediting asskey. But, like I said, my post wasn't aimed at you people. It's
aimed at the moronic ignoids who think they've "made" an ascie, by copying it and coloring
it.... or the ones who just steal it outright, and try to convince people they did it.

    Those of you who do make your own pix on IRC, ought to post the things. Most of us
would rather that they were in standard asskey format, but it wouldn't bother some of us
(I could actually care less, myself) if it wasn't. Maybe you should consider starting
alt-ascii-extended. I would be happy to help do that, as I am sure others here would.
There is a wider audience for your extended-keyboard pix on Usenet than you will get on
IRC. Of course, any standard ascie picture is more than welcome to be posted here, by
everyone. If you read the posts here, you have already noticed that many of the text-
pictures here aren't very sophisticated, and  they don't have or need to be. Anybody who
wants to post a pix here can do so, and it doesn't have to look like some of the real
"artsy" ones. They're just as good (or bad) as anyone else's, as far as I am concerned.
Or you might try converting some of your non-standard pix to standard ascei. It wouldn't
be hard, for many pictures.

    ... Or you could take over alt.binaries.pictures.ascii and put it to use. There's no posts
on that newsgroup, except for my occasional ascii-.gif cartoon. I'm sure you would pick up
readership, if you started posting there.

    You know, there are an awful lot of IRC and/or MIRC (and other) newsgroups on Usenet
that are chat-related. Surely there is one of them that would appreciate your "mirc-art".
Post the pix there. If you do, people would probably read 'em. Using abpa or one of the
irc newsgoups might be a good idea, for you IRC-color folks out there. Then you could identify
plagiarists when they come along, just like we do here.

    About rules reguarding what to play on IRC... well, I know about it, Ole. I know about
flooding off, too. On your channel, you folks don't choke everybody with a lot of silly rules,
but many of those chat-channels do. And when I visit IRC, I don't mind getting knocked out
of some channel that don't like my "material". I'm juvenile enough to enjoy that.

    It's all just electrons, you know...
