I'm getting scripting errors with this. (and in order for the animation
to work in MSIE as well as NEtscape, the endings for the lines have to
be \r\n"+ instead of \n"+ )

Does this only work on Netscape 4 and up? I have Netscape 3

Looks interesting though...

What's the point of putting this in alt.ascii-art.animation? It's
basically dead.

I'll have to think about it... if I upgrade then I'll be able to see
that stupid GeoWatermark and that will mean I have to move my website.
Brrrr. I HATE moving. And then of course, I'll have to learn the new
Javascript coding. But I'll also be able to look at Celia's
(http://members.xoom.com/albertopsq/) Netscape 4 animations...

The reduction in the amount of code is amazing. (Hmmm, I wonder where
the suitcases are....)

I have posted the prog. at alt.ascii-art.animation. There are three postings:
1.) creates file type 1 (not often effective)
2.) ... 2
3.) sample animations

The prog. are only 'trash'. They are written in TurboPascal 1.0(!) and
I'm not sure if they work without problems...
Before you download them please think about the restrictions:
This system is ONLY effective if you work with large files which have a
very similar background.

May be Netscape 4 supports 'string[x]' settings alternative, but than
it didn't work with IE ... ;)

Thanks.

the watermark isn't that bad now ... mebbe they've taken your complaints
on board ... since it has changed to a lowercase 'g' logo
... so there is no real need to move site .. i prefer the watermark to
the pop-up adverts anyway

sorry for that 'bad language' expression .. it translates to 'headache'.

as for 'drop-in' web-page ... this would be a javascript web-page that
has an input window and an output window where you would paste your
anim into the input window and the result would appear in the output
window ... which you'd then copy and paste into a file on your computer

it is something i have been working on for sometime now ... altho' i
have had problems with web-browser compatibility ... where netscape
and Iexplorer are so different from each other :(
... what works on one won't on the other and vice-versa

(a by-product of it is a little 4Kb web-page called 'webflip'
  http://www/shieldwolf.demon.co.uk/anim/webflip.htm )

yep... there's also charAt(index) and charCodeAt(index) which work on
both Ns4 and Ie4

Well, of course you're right, Martin. I know that it looks like this

Incidentally, I find that since GeoCities just bungs the code on the end of
the file, putting a <COMMENT> tag (no closing tag) after the </HTML> makes
it not appear in Internet Explorer... but that still leaves Netscape 4 - I'm
sure there's some other way of getting around it in that too.

Not strictly proper HTML, but it works nicely in all browsers I tried it in
(When I say 'work fine' I mean that it doesn't mess the screen or anything)

It's a nice idea, Martin... But sadly GeoCities frowns upon it. They
consider that as code tampering. Any tampering with GeoCities' code
causes GeoPages to be pulled summarily and without warning from
cyberspace.

by filling out a GeoCities Comment Submission Form.
