I've been doing ascii art for while and thought I'd post a few pics until I can set up a proper little web site. What do y'all think of these? [snipped pics] Someone (maybe your newsreader) is eating the spaces in front of your pic. (I remember we had the problem and a fix, someone please repost!). I tried to "recreate" the pictures and - hey! - it was fun. Somehow like "drawing by numbers". You could slowly see the image shift into place. Nice game! I wonder if I got them completely right though : > a left cross __ __________ __,___/ ",", ___.--" "\'. ____/ l \ ",'-, ------f" // \\\ \ (l\ \ \ \ \", | ||| / u | \ \ \ | ||| _ ) / | | \ ----L_-XXX-. .|' / U < | | | "\ -<_____/// \ 6 ) | | | \___) -" '. -.<" / / | |'.___ | _._." / | ./ _."." _." / |"----" _." jjs \ > more of an anime style? ___ _____." \ /\__/ l \ \ / (X \ | | _ ) u | | / U / | \ .-" / \ 6 ) / / >--" / / <" _." jjs / "-----" "-. / '."". :. That sounds like a realy very simple programe to right. teach it what is alowed in ascii art and what is not. create a algarithm for each use the first one to see if you got it right use the second one to tweek correct ones to make randome game "boards" this actualy sounds like a job for emacs lisp. -- --(UIN=66618055)-- --(tty1@faux.local_04:45_/home/faux)-- cat .sig GUI's are for slackers. ibpconf.sh 6.1 on freshmeat.net The easiest way to customize the command line. So is anybody going to try making that? Are you a programmer Faux_Pseudo? Programming those algorithms seems like quite a task. I don't even know how you would begin. What are some examples of what is allowed in ascii-art that the program AI could actually do? Likewise what is not? I know that a tab is not allowed, others? You see ascii-art is so different to each artist. It would be very hard to say this is what you can and can't do because each artist likes it to look different. Does anybody have some set rules that would work, or that program may never be. By Faux_Pseudo
I program mostly in bash which is a scrip language found on all linux
systems.
It is not suited for that kind of work.
it would best be done in something like perl or c
as far as the algorithms go most any ascii-art faq will have a list of
usable charicters and you can use one of those lists to start from.
this is a sample script i only put about 8 minutes in but any bash
user should be able to make out what the idea is.
for char in $(cat $buffer | sed 's/\([[:print:]]\)/\
\1/g') ; do
if [ ! $(echo $char | egrep [[:print:]] ) ] ; then
echo "You have a invalid ascii char in your drawing"
echo "Try it again" ; sleep 1
load_current_buffer
fi
done
echo "You got it right"
go_to_next_level_of_game ; exit 0

You have found the right combination:" print for item in riddle: print item def main(): """main function - initializes picture and permutation, calls showRiddle to present the riddle""" pic = ["+---+", "|b b|", "| u |", "| o |", "+---+"] riddle = permute(pic) showRiddle(pic, riddle) if __name__ == "__main__": main()
