uncalled for.  I've been with this newsgroup since
1995- VK has been a long-time contributor-- she
knows what she is doing.  Perhaps she was crass
in her response to you-- but keep in mind that we
see posts like yours ...so... often.  This is an ASCII 
art newsgroup (hence the name, alt.ascii-art)- we
expect posts to be in ASCII -- not some variant text code. 
There are other NGs for that.    We also expect that
newcomers to the NG will follow proper net-etiquette
and read the group's FAQ.  I know, presumptuous on
our part.

Won`t do Veronica much good... that`s a DOS program and she`s using Un*x...
which is also why your pics looked screwy... they were intended for Windows.

As for your bad attitude.... extended characters are NOT ascii characters, and
neither are any ansi codes, or any other OS-specific shit.

I like TheDraw and AcidDraw... but they are ANSI editors, not ASCII editors...
and alt.ascii-art is not the place for bare ANSI... I like your pictures, but
they can screw up peoples newsreaders... so be a nice person and attach them in
some encoded form and mention that they are ansi... theres a nice angry
person... now calm down and post some more of your lovely pics....

For the benefit of Veronica and anyone else using something other than Windoze
or MicroShite DOS... I think I tracked down most of the extended characters so
give you a fair idea of what the pic looks like... I don`t know if I got the
right replacements (probably not) but frankly I don`t give a shit... this guy

Martin, you missed a few. (Now I hope I didn't miss any.) I changed all
the $ into S as well. I've looked at this in Courier size 3, 4 and 5 and
can't tell at all what it's supposed to be; I feel sure it's supposed to
_be_ something aside from a quite interesting design. It's even more
tantalizing with white text on a black background.

If you're so old and experienced, how come you don't know about the
basic netuquette of reading FAQs before posting? (I hope you realise
that by this statement of yours you lose any claim of newbie stupidity

The FAQ was made after a lot of discussion in this group and represents
what the majority of the people here think is the correct way to do
things.

Now we get to the part about "what is an artist?". IMHO being an artist
isn't just about getting the lines right, it is also about making things
that work. If you make a painting and after 50 years all the blue has
faded away, can you really call yourself a good artist? A good artist
would have known that that particular pigment would not last in the sun
and would have chosen to use a different pigment. If you want to "push
the envelope" and do new things you should first make sure you have
thorough understanding about what happens "under the surface" and what
the consequences are of doing something. If you just want to make
pictures, you only need to learn the rules that others have spent time
and effort to figure out about how to do things so that they work.

No, that's quite right, I didn't make the text saying "Veronica", Figlet
did. However, I would have been proud to have made the Figlet font
"small" (I think that's the one I used) since it is one of the clearest
and best ascii fonts.
