NoteTabPro can even auto load in the systray and when you click it up you can have it automatically load as many specific txt files as you wish everytime you turn on the computer. They are just a tab away from each other. I just installed Word 98 on my Mac and it's great! Just produced my first cartoon with it that I just posted, and wow, the best word processor/text editor the world has ever seen! However, the "Save as HTML..." command does not work for ascii art. Specifically, it does not introduce the PRE tag, but the less supported FONT FACE tag. Moreover, spaces are purged which ruins the drawing. Unless someone finds a way to adjust the settings of the application, it's back to the old html editor or handcoding! Nah...the PC-Write 2.55 wordprocessor is the best ever for Ascii Artwork. It only has one monospaced font. After playing around for a little while, here is a workflow that works for ascii art. 1) Open a new file, and "Save as HTML..." 2) Disregard the warning that appears, and hit OK 3) Paste ascii art into the file and select the entire pic 4) From the toolbar, choose "Preformatted" from the dropdown menu 5) The pic should look correct now and do a "Save" A somewhat clunky workflow, but it works, at least for the minimal amount of testing that I have done with IE4, NS3 and NS4. You can also: a) edit the pic after step 4 b) add background color from the dropdown menu in the toolbar. However, there is a caveat for adding color to individual characters. The resulting pic looks correct in Word 98 itself and in IE4, but gets rendered incorrectly in NS3 and NS4. I stopped my investigations at this point. The overall impression I got with Word 98 sofar, is that it can do pretty sophisticated html layout (not just ascii art) that will be rendered correctly by IE, but you need to exercise care for NS beyond the lowest common denominator stuff. It is definitely not a neutral html tool, but to be fair, none of the commercial html tools are neutral either, although some are more neutral than others. ============================================================= [] [] [] ,, Visit the Gallery of the 'steins! There are several sources of info: * the public info written by the makers of the tool, often posted on their websites, do a keyword search with one of the web search engines * ask the makers of the tool to draft an entry for the FAQ (good publicity for them, may not be bias free, but not much work for you) * do a keyword search in DejaNews on the product, it means more work for you (analyzing the comments) but it will also be more bias free. For example, the tool mentioned in the above, ACIDDRAW is not really a web oriented tool, you can use it for the web, but you have to bend over backwards. It is therefore far from being "the only ascii tool you will ever need" although the tool has interesting capabilities. P.S.
