If you write a Mickey Mouse or 'stein story without using Mickey Mouse or
'stein characters, then as a practical matter you might as well use different
names. If you nevertheless use the Mickey Mouse or 'stein name then you need
to add an acknowledgement, i.e. you don't get a free ride on the names, just
like you don't get a free ride on the pics.

Pics or storylines or both can obviously be emulated from the original in
many, many ways. As far as the 'steins are concerned, if there is a high
degree of similarity of pics or storylines, then I would like to see the
acknowledgement "The 'steins are copyright Pete Casso". If there are
significant changes, I would like to see the acknowledgement "The 'steins
after Pete Casso".

Again, these acknowledgements are common practice in case of *more often than
occasional use* (nobody will say anything in case of occasional use)
