It isn't that rare, at least I don't think. I only have four teats (I'm a cow), but five or more do occur. However, they are usually removed, so that is probably why you don't see many of them. I do know one cow that still has a fifth (don't know why she didn't have her's removed, though), but it is not like she has a fifth section to her udder. The teat is under-developed, and it is attached to one of the back sections of her udder. It doesn't cause her any problems that I know of; it's just a cosmetic thing. Moo!
