Hi 
 I was just reading about putting ascii images for alternates to images.
What you do is put the image tag inside of a pre tag
eg.
<pre>
<img src="http://www.somesite.com/~somename/someimage.gif" ALT="
some ascii image
">
</pre>
notice: I have NOT tried this.
