i have tried it in:
  http://www.shieldwolf.demon.co.uk/art-glry.htm
the font-size is also defined to make it fit 640x480 pix
let me know if it breaks (or other gripes)

altho' it does look different in various web-browsers
with different settings ... depends on the browser and
its capabilities

hi Sebastian
i knew 'monaco' was specific but not 'fixed'
nor that 'monospace' is platform independent

however ... i have found cases where the web-application
programs being used responded only to one or other of:
  fixed || monospace

and *my* association of them to the respective operating
systems is where i have most often found them needed and
'monaco' like 'topaz' comes highly recommended for macOS 

i looked at your code http://www.ascii-art.net/ascii.css
saw it was fine and neat with "Courier New" suggested as
the "best-viewed-with" font

the only odd thing was SamSpade1.14 made it look like
"td.footer {" had a closing brace '}' missing but that
may have just been me closing the connection too soon?
