I have a delima. I am a PC technician in a hospital and I have to FDISK a
hard drive and someone has used ASCII characters in the Volume Label. I
have downloaded the Extended ASCII Character set where I must use the Alt
key plus the decimal number to get the ASCII character. The values that I
have range from 128 to 255.

I am trying to find the ASCII decimal value that emulates what looks like a
playing card. There is a border and at the top within the border there are
two dots and beneath the two dots there is a heart. If anyone could send
me a text file with the decimal set and the character that appears on the
screen I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

You can reach me at jma...@sccoast.net. I get spammed a great deal so could
you put ASCII in the subject header. Thanks.

Hmm, that doesn't sound like any of the extended characters and I'm
looking at a list now, but can you put carrage returns in a volume label to
create a small ASCII pic? If so, it sounds like it's _ " and alt plus 3 stacked
over each other. But then that could be wrong; is the volume label more than
one line tall?
Could the binary information have been changed for one ASCII character on
that machine? I know I could do that with my old Commodore, then again, the
Commodore didn't have a hard drive. Just a thought. (I have no idea how to do
it on a PC though, just giving you ideas).

hi Jim..

you are referring to a symbol which is multilingual character set..can be
found in the MSDN OnLine Library..info and a list of some are on this
website and it was exactly how you described it-looks like the first one
#1....can be found at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/isapi/msdnlib.idc?theURL=/library/devprods/vs6/vc+
+/vclang/_pluslang_ascii_multilingual_codes.htmAlso i seem to recall that
you can change your format in word to another character set in another
format such as some european character set..i dont have word loaded on this
puter to check that or if my recollection is correct.

good luck to you.

Why don'y you just use the dos command LABEL to give the drive a new one
that you know the name of?

Dailing that you can use something like Nortons DiskEdit to hexedit the
root directory and manually change the name.
