i'm new here, this is my first atempt at any kind of ascii art, so bear 
with me. this is supposed to be a jester, can you tell? any suggestions 
for making it better? anyone have another jester i could look at?

Uh... what following characters? Most of them look like exclamation marks, on
my newsreader. I presume that they are extended characters, however. Well, I like
the extendeds, myself. The problem with them, however, is that not everybody can
see them on their system, and even those who can, don't always see the same things.
Currently, only your actual keyboard characters are plain text askee characters. It
would be nice if the extended characters travelled as far and as well as the actual
ascie ones, but until they do, and are included in the ascii character list, I suppose
we shall mostly have to avoid them. It's not that we don't like 'em; it's just that
they don't travel.

I think you are a bit confused by the term
"ASCII".. the neat characters that you have
in the above 'wave effect' are not considered
to be ASCII (American Standard Code of
Information Interchange) characters.  They
are not the universal 7-bit characters.
Because of this, some systems don't see
your cool wave -- they may see square blocks,
other characters, or other superfluous coded
characters.  In other words, many people
see your sig as a mess.

This is the reason that it is best to use
pure ASCII characters when posting internationally.

The point is those figures in your sig aren't strictly considered ASCII
art and can actually cause trouble with come older newsreaders.
