This is the Mars Lander that will be sent to Mars by NASA in 2001. A compact
disc bearing names of more than 1.000.000 kids and teenagers is mounted
on it.
Any comments are welcome!

really nice :)
but IIRC is ANSI and not ASCII, so you should replace it with an other
character to call it pure ASCII :)

I found the GUI really great, but the CLI was hard to use (and the window it was inside, it couldn't be closed anymore). But what me really fascinated was this cool 'say' program. I believe this speech synthesizer is still used by some musicians doing electronic music (does anybody know 'Console'? I think they use it). Unfortunately the disk images I downloaded didn't have the MicroEmacs as described in the manual, but the manual sometimes still helps me out when I need a help to a command in GNU Emacs. You should have read the manual more carefully.. :-) endcli or endshell is the command to use. And if you have a recent version of the OS (2.x or 3.x), then the console windows also have a close-button. >But what me really fascinated was this cool 'say' program. I believe this >speech synthesizer is still used by some musicians doing electronic music >(does anybody know 'Console'? I think they use it). Commodore licenced the speech engine from some company which I don't remember right now.. I've heard the same speech in some commercials etc. The speech engine in 2.0x is much better than the one in 1.x. Then CBM decided it wasn't worth it to licence the engine anymore so they dropped it in 2.1. I don't think it's the same that Console uses, in my opinion that sounds like a vocoder. (you speak into it and it morphs your voice) >Unfortunately the disk images I downloaded didn't have the MicroEmacs as >described in the manual, but the manual sometimes still helps me out when >I need a help to a command in GNU Emacs. AmigaDOS is quite Unix-like in its function, but uses commands more familiar to MS-DOS users. Of course, when I first used AmigaDOS I didn't have anything else to base it on ... I learnt how to use MS-DOS based on what I knew of AmigaDOS, which led to lots of frustration along the way! :) >>But what me really fascinated was this cool 'say' program. Argh, I have 1.2, 1.3 and 2.1... so I've missed the better library altogether! :) >>Unfortunately the disk images I downloaded didn't have the MicroEmacs as >>described in the manual, but the manual sometimes still helps me out when >>I need a help to a command in GNU Emacs. > >Microemacs was quite a good conversion back then, who really needs the >LISP part of emacs anyway?-) I never really used MEMACS that much, preferring Ed.
