hi From newbie

Hi all,

I would like to try ascii art. I read the FAQ, and read the tutorials
here (thanks) I just want to make sure which is better. Should I try to
draw with dos or notepad? Someone gave me a program for coloring the art
for irc, called UltrAsc that I cannot figure out. I made a very small
mouse, and when I try to place back ground color and to actually color
the mouse, the background color will take up such a large are, it cannot
be played on irc, then I get an error, and cannot get out of the
program, so I have to reboot.
So what I am asking...whats is a easier way to start as a beginner? dos?
or notepad, and should I just get rid of this color program?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally use the DOS editor.

Hi-  Personally-   I use notepad to create my ASCII pictures.  
I'm not into mIRCs so I can't tell you how to colorize them.
I do have a link off my homepage to LadyWAVer's homepage
(whose URL I would have to search for right now) but she has
mIRC info along with examples of colorized mIRC ascii art.
I believe that she does her colorization by hand- no program.

I use Notepad. I suspect any text editor will do, as long as you use a
fixed width font like Courier. And you don't have to get rid of the
colour program yet; just shelve it for now. (And Never, Never, post your
colour codes in the newsgroup.)

I have coloured things for mIRC and got a long chart from someone there.
Here is a modified shortened version that might help you use your
program. I have changed the control characters to "[]" so as not to
annoy people unduly.

When you want to "colorize" something, you can copy the desired
code from the chart and paste it where you want in your text file.

Open the text file: (using llizard as example)

Make sure your drawing has enough spaces after each line to make
it into a rectangle. The lines I put in at the end of each line
are only there to show how far the spaces go. You don't need to
put them in.

To make the background black, put "[]1,1" at the beginning of
each line. If you wanted to make it navy blue, you would put
"[]2,2". To make the first "ha" red, put []4 before it. Then to
make the tail green,  put a []3 just before the characters for
the tail. If you have put a verticle line at the end of your
rectangle to help you see where your drawing should end, put a
[]1 before it to make it black (the same colour as your background)

Adding color code *seems* to distort the picture, especially when
you change colors on one line, as done here on line three for the
"ha", nose, eyes and body.  But when you run it in mIRC, it will
still look like the original llizard --but coloured.

Save the file.  Use the /play command to send it to the chat
screen. (If file is saved as llizard.txt, in C:\mirc, the command
would be: /play C:\mirc\llizard.txt

Hope this helps you. Have fun and don't make your drawings too
wide or too many lines or you will get horrible distortion. If
you colour somebody else's drawings, make sure you colour and
leave their initials in.

Hi all.

I know this is the first article from my hand in this group, but as a
believer in "have nothing to say, be quiet", it has its cause.

First of all I do not think that IRC coloring "ascii" should be in
this NG, because to do the coloring, control-codes are used and even a
lot of ppl are using non standard characters to do the color art.

Sadly when you travel on the IRC, you see some art works without the
initials of the maker, but you do allso see a lot of new work, and
colored text lines.

The reason for my post is not a "spam" or in anyway ment as an
commercial, but I have made an "IRC color editor" for Win95, that will
work for both mIRC and pIRCH, it is freeware, yes right nobody is
making freeware but I do. To get a copy of this program you can email
me on the lelow address. Please do not reply with "I WANT IT TO" in
this NG !!!!, dont take up bandwith unnessesaryly. Allso any questions
regarding coloring on the IRC can be send to me and I will try my best
to explain.

Last words from me is : Great work you are doing everybody, like the
pics and drawings.
