Hi

A friend of mine is beginning a Reiki practice from home & I'm trying to
help her put together a nice brochure. She thought a nice Ying Yang
symbol would be
good for a header.

If you have one (or more) or feel like building one it would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. Please email two...@aol.com since I don't get here much. thnx.

if you get one, could you send me a copy?

I think this has been mentioned before, but yes, you're right.

Yin - positive aspect, light (associated with the male gender, rightly
        or not)
Yang - negative aspect, darkness (ditto female)

Samurai Dragon
  -==UDIC==-

It was my impression that it is called a YIN YAN -- Asian languages don't
really have 'angs' and 'ings' in their language. Am I wrong on this?

Hmmm... lets see what the majority thinks... but I *don't* mean by
"voting" here at alt.ascii-art or by bombing my mail box! I mean, lets
see how many answers Alta Vista gives on some possible spellings:

yin yan 71
yin yang	5000
ying yan	53
ying yang	800

yin and yan	18
yin and yang	500
ying and yan	1
ying and yang	100

yinyan 272
yinyang 6549
yingyan 12
yingyang	1305

Well, it looks as if a clear winner is "yin" combined with "yang",
followed by "ying" combined with "yang". This is not an absolute result,
only a measurement of how the people on the web seem to consider these
words should be spelled.

Conclusion is that it is quite controversial and we really shouldn't
start a discussion over it. ;-) Lets leave it some yin yang newsgroup.

What number did you look at? here's an example search:

                               ,this one?
Word count: yang ying: about 85
Documents 1-10 of about 71 matching the query, best matches first.
                         `or this one?

Word count: yang yin: about 200
Documents 1-10 of about 200 matching the query, best matches first.

Word count: yan yin: about 29
Documents 1-10 of 25 matching the query, best matches first.

Word count: yan ying: about 26
Documents 1-10 of 25 matching the query, best matches first.

yang yin seems to be quite popular :-)

How about this one... which is correct: favorite -or- favourite?

Ok, I've been reading a bit about this, sorry but this is off topic:

	It is Yin Yang ...
Yin and Yang are not absolut values. Yin is only Yin when related to Yang
and vice versa. Generally male, light, superior, hot is Yang when related to female
darkness, inferior and cold. Old ancients defined yang like the sunny side of the
hill and yin the shadow side. But don't forget, for example, a woman that is yin
related to a man is yang related to a "more yin" woman.
Yin and yang do not exist without the other, there is no meaning to yin
without yang or to yang without yin.

	have fun :)

actually, I believe it is compound word; a visual combination of the
letters for yin and yang in chineese. But, that's irrelivant. -L-
