This is the good stuff. I'd like every strip to be like this one. This is my
kind of humour. If you don't like this and instead find other stuff funny, just
do me a favour and stop reading and never look back. You like what I like, or
you're an idiot. That was my Joe England impression, I didn't mean a single word
of it. OK, maybe "favour".

I find this strip kind of amusing throughout. I got the idea first and then
looked for the relevant panels in previous strips. It amazed me, when I pasted
them together, how much they actually sounded like "previously, on..." clips. I
mean, all the relevant info is there, in a few lines, and the last line is a
really ominous sounding hook that will hopefully prevent the viewers from
changing the channel during the opening credits. It actually sounds like a soap
opera! I was thrilled at first, but then I realised that it probably means that
my writing sucks and that the dialogue sounds forced. And the lighting, don't
get me started...

also funny! Yep. This is pure genious. In fact, maybe I should just quit while

Yep, but my way is funnier. I might be ahead, but I'm certainly not on top, when

OK, that's a bit OTT, IMHO. (Let's see who can use the most acronyms! :)

I sure do. :) I said you could draw it yourself if you like, because that way it
doesn't have to fit in with the storyline. Guest strips are exempt from the
"silly" restrictions that I impose upon myself.

Oh, it's easy. Gambarimasu! (= "Good luck/Do your best")

If I remember my Japanese, that's what the person who is taking on a job
says. The person who is asking someone else to do a job or who is
encouraging them says "Ganbatte!" or "Ganbatte kudasai", which is the
"request" form of the same verb. Sort of like "Please do your best", to
which the other person might answer "I will do my best".

Cheers,
Philip.

Right. Sorry, I'm stupid. :)

How do you know English? Can you study English outside of England?

I can't speak for others, but I know some Japanese because I took
classes for several years (but only once a week, so I didn't learn as
much as I did the languages I learned in school). And because languages
interest me. And because there were quite a few Japanese students at my
school.

> Is it just consequence of that widespreading anime movies???

Not in my case. I had never heard of anime or manga when I started.

> Or you can study Japanese somewhere outside Japan?

Indeed you can. It can be a bit difficult, though. (For example, my
first class was cancelled after about two years because the class size
became too small as more and more people dropped out with each passing
semester, but we managed to continue on a private basis by paying the
teacher directly. Until she had to cancel because she was going to start
teaching a beginner's class again and didn't have time for two groups.)

Cheers,
Philip

Yeah, I can study English in Russia. And I doubt there are schools in Russia
where you can learn Japanese. I just was surprised that so many people know it.
It isn't very widespread, you know. AFAIK, there is only one country where
Japanese is the main language and I can't see the reason why one could learn it
if he is not planning to live in Japan. Except for "r33tness factor".

And to watch anime and Japanese movies, and read Japanese literature and manga.
Is that "r" intentional, btw, as a commentary on how Japanese doesn't
distinguish between "l" and "r"? :)

True AFAIK (there are Japanese speakers in Korea and Taiwan due to
Japanese occupation, but it's not the main language there).

How about "general linguistic curiosity"? That's what got me started. I
saw that Japanese classes were offered and thought "hey, that could be
interesting". And having lots of Japanese at school to practice helped a
bit.

Philip

SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO BE A GAIJIN
UNDERSTANDING ANIME IN ONLY ONE LANGUAGE
YOU'LL HAVE BAD TIMES
THEY'LL HAVE GOOD TIMES
WATCHING THINGS THAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

Exactly. Like the former r33t.org.

It was just r.g.r.a joke. You don't need to understand it. Next time I'll try to
put jokes in the right group :).
