If I remember my Japanese, that's what the person who is taking on a job
says. The person who is asking someone else to do a job or who is
encouraging them says "Ganbatte!" or "Ganbatte kudasai", which is the
"request" form of the same verb. Sort of like "Please do your best", to
which the other person might answer "I will do my best".
