A Gryphon has a lion's tail whereas the Dragon does not have a lion's tail but usually has a tail which is barbed at the end. The trouble is that artists get confused and mix things up so that they depict dragons with lions', dinosaurs' and barbed dragons' tails. The Gryphon has a lion's body and an eagle's beak.
