It could do without the nu-metal-esque rap rubbish. Aside from that, it's a cool song, with a cool singer, and a cool video. I considered buying their album (which is unusual for me as I don't normally buy very many Top 40 items. >According to JavE it has no illegal characters, so it *IS* ascii, and >it's in the form of a picture so I'd personally have to assume it was >art. ASCII, yes - art, however, is subjective. I'd consider it ASCII art. There are some things in the world of art that I wouldn't consider artistic. For example, Damien Hurst (sp?) won the Turner Prize for his piece, which was a cow that he had cut in half down the middle, and had put into two tanks of formaldehyde. The two tanks were side by side, with a gap of 2 or 3 feet between the two, so that the viewer could walk between the two for a better look. It's not that I'm squeamish, or offended by the use of an animal in this piece, but I just don't consider it art. However, many of the visitors to Londons' Tate Modern gallery where the exhibit was housed, felt that it was. I condsider Anubis' cauldron piece to be art. It seems that Bateau does not, which is fine. -- Graeme Porter -^-_ _ / [_][_]_:_ Proud owner of a 1978 /| _||_ v Pearl Fiberglass Shell kit | / \ | -=/=\\____//=\=jaa "I married Miss right, I just didn't know her first name was 'Always'" -- Anonymous

No talent, no effort. It's crap.

i never would have thought that a simple cauldron with some modern
song
lyrics would have sparked such a debate. for the record, i happen to
think that "Bring me to Life" is an excellent song, and Evanescene is
a good band, but i predict that they'll be a flash in the pan, that
they'll have a really good 15 minutes of fame that they'll be able to
ride on for awhile (and perhaps some will do side projects and solo
efforts), and then they'll enter into the collective memory as "one
of those fairly good bands of the early 00's", only slightly less
memorable than Linkin Park (who are enjoying their time in the
spotlight a lot longer than i would have predicted).
Bateau <Gam...@work.stomping.aza> wrote in message news:<hga...@4ax.com>...

"talent" is a matter of opinion. not sure if you're referring to my
cauldron, the song, or both, but it's still simply opinion. i hate
the music of Hanson, but when you consider how young they were when
they cut their first album, and the fact that they actually did play
their instruments (which is more than can be said for the Monkees),
they were pretty damn talented. (talent? yes. effort? plenty.
still crap? yup)
as for "effort", if you really need a play-by-play, here it is...
1) first i had to get the cauldron just right. i couldn't find any
decent clipart that wasn't more colorful than it needed to be or had
fuzzy edges that were just no good. i found that the "Woolbats" font
had a good cauldron as one of its characters, so then i had to create
a gif file of that character.
2) i had find the lyrics to the song, delete some redundancies, clean
up some typos, and eliminate all carriage returns.
3) using JavE to camelize it wasn't just a 3-second "click-click"
deal, i had to choose and tweak the settings, since the default
settings didn't satisfy me
4) diddling in EditPad wasn't all that difficult, but still needed
to be done.
do you think ppl shouldn't use JavE? it's kinda like Fruity Loops.
i know some ppl that download Fruity Loops, put about 10 minutes
effort into making a song, and the song actually sounds like something
from Fatboy Slim or Chemical Brothers, and suddenly they're on the
charts at mp3.com. on the other hand, some ppl have used FL to make
innovative, interesting, intelligent music. myself, i prefer to use
a real tracker, like Fast Tracker II (old school) or ModPlug Tracker
(windows equivalent, more user-friendly but stiil requires some actual
skill), but if someone uses FL and comes up with something original
(and good), i'm not going to reject it because it required "no effort"
