Here in Helsinki I just barely managed to catch a glimpse of a crescent
sun for a few seconds out of the rear window of a car when the cloud cover
got a bit thinner than usual.

The positive side was that there was no need for a dark glass, since the
sun was only barely visible anyway. ;-)

It actually looked pretty damn weird compared to a the more usual sight of
a crescent moon. In paintings one often sees crescents that look like the
intersection of two circles, (instead of a half-illuminated sphere) and
face in any random direction, but seeing one in reality took me a while to
realize what it was that looked so odd about it.

Hmm.. shouldn't be hard to draw..
