I now have Matthew's latest alt.ascii-art FAQ at:
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/7373/faq.htm

I used orange lettering on a bright green backgound.... hyperlinked
everything backwards... and put the ASCII art in 'normal' text instead
of 'true type'.... makes for a very interesting site!

heehee-- just kidding- it is as Matthew sent it w/ a little extra bold-face.
Go ahead and shoot me-- I did add hyperlinks to two tutorial locations...
Ahhhhh-- feeling Matthew's wrath right now!

But it is up.

yeah-- not sure what that tag was... thought it might've been
there for a reason... My 'go to top' misread this tag... I'll be
changing that on the next update... it's pretty minor-- at least
all the text and pictures are OK...
Let me know if you see anything else 'not quite right'...

I downloaded it from there now too.

Well I changed the background to black and made orange links indeed - and I
deleted this :

<P><BASE HREF="/users/cosc/undergrad/stage2/mpt26/doc/ascii-faq.html">----<A NAME="top"></A><BR>

as well as your extra bold-face. Because my Lynx uses underline for
bold-face and all the pictures look quite awfull.

> Go ahead and shoot me-- I did add hyperlinks to two tutorial locations...

Aha, at last. It seemed we were waiting for someone to add those.
Thanx.

Me, wrathful? Surely not!

BUT ... in the `How do I start drawing ASCII art?' section I do refer
people to the links in the `Where can I find more ASCII art?' section
for links to tutorials (where after a little clicking they could find
both of your links), rather than putting the links in myself and turning
the FAQ into a link-fest.

Eee, oh no! /users/cosc/undergrad/stage2/mpt26/doc/ascii-faq.html is the
filename which the HTML version of the FAQ has on my computer, and for
some perverse reason Netscape Mail adds that BASE HREF tag to the file
when I attach it, so that my computer is the only computer in the world
for which those links work (not only the `Go to Top' ones, but also the
go-to-question ones)! So ... delete that line, pronto!

> Let me know if you see anything else 'not quite right'...

Hmmm, well it seems that Netscape Gold (your graphical HTML editor --
sigh) won't accept <H1></H1>s inside <LI></LI>s. End result being that
the headings for the questions in your version are really small ...

But not to worry. Next year, in my spare time (eh?), I will write a Perl
script which converts the HTML version of the FAQ to plain text (easier
that than vice versa), mailxs the plain text version to Colin, then
makes two copies of the HTML version, adds links to GeoCities and Joan's
home page to one copy, mailxs that to Joan (mailx won't do anything
silly like adding BASE HREF tags), finds the BODY tag in the other copy,
changes it to Martin's favourite colours, adds a link to Martin's home
page, and mailxs that to Martin, then makes me supper ...

Because this will be my last message until next year (account closing in
-- let's see -- 1 hour 20 minutes), I'll take this opportunity to wish
you all ...

True-- except that if you're really concerned about it
becoming a "link-fest"-- we might really want to consider
if we need ALL of the FIGlet sites-- there are quite a few...
I'm also not that concerned about the links that I added
going bad-- one is at my site, and the other is with Allen
Mullen. And as far as I know, Allen intends on keeping
his sites going... I just had email with him this past week-
end.

BTW, I was informed that the FIGlet homepage is gone...
is that true? I can't get into it...
http://st-www.cs.uiuc.edu/users/chai/figlet.html
Has it been moved? Does anyone know to where?

Will do....

No problem, I'll just add some <h2> headlines </h2> !

Actually I think all of them are fine... I was just bringing
up a point-- Adding 2 more links to a new topic is not a
big deal-- especially when I know these will be valid
links for quite a while.

>True as well. I hope we can count on you two for a while. ;)

I'm not burned out yet! It'll be my 2 year anniversary of
discovering ASCII art later this month! :)

That is odd-- Allen Mullen said that he had difficulty
too... and there was someone else who couldn't get into
a figlet site (not sure if it the same one or not)... Wonder
if something is going on here...

I agree. The information isn't going to change... it'll
just be a matter of checking for dead links.
