Hi, this is my first ascii art. I had to remind someone how a tune went by
email - you can't hum a bit, so I wrote it out... Apologies to anyone who
can't read music!
                      ____ 3 _
  ., _ ' `_ _______ ( )
--+-[---------.---(-)-----(@)----|-------|--.-----|-------------.-------|~--
  | ] | |~ |~ (@) _ | | |} | |
--+-[-----|---+---|-------|--|--(@)---------+-----|----------|}-+---|---|---

\_|/ ~ | | | | | ~
--+-----------"-------------------------|---"-------------------"-----------

I won't tell you what the tune is, so you can all play "name that tune"...
(hint: the tune came immediately to mind when I saw a recent post on this
ng!)

Some problems are that the "coloured-in" heads on quarter-notes
(crotchets) don't look so good - is there a fuller character than `@' I
should use? Also the "beam" on the 8th-notes isn't heavy enough... And
the beginning of the tie between the half-note and eighth-note could be
mistaken for a dot (like on the double-dotted half-note in the next bar).
And you can't put much music on the staff before exceeding most people's
80-char line length. Maybe someone could diddle my treble clef to make it
look better too.
                                                 |
                              | |
If anyone else wants a go, sharps are easy: # @
                              |
                          | _| |
but naturals are harder: [] (@) is my best attempt |
                         | ~ |
                                                                      _|
ledger lines are no prob, here's middle C under the treble clef: -(-)-
                                                                      ~
And you can come up with your own bass clef...

Some of you are so good at curvy stuff I'm sure you can do much better
than this, starting from scratch - I'd like to see it if anyone tries!

cheers -jon
