How do you get proportional and monospaced fonts sorted out when
composing an ASCII floor plan diagram for a weblog template?...
Here's the diagram on one weblog template
http://GuideToProblematicalLibraryUse.WebLogs.com
Here's another template
http://saklad.org
Here's the original

pre tags didn't quite work out
Going over it column by column, space by space has been rather tedious
and needs more work.
Any other ideas?...
Cheers!

Thank you! What do the letters TT represent mnemonically?...
Indicates teletype. Renders text in fixed-width type. The required end tag returns the text formatting to normal. ?:) "Don Saklad" <dsa...@nestle.ai.mit.edu> wrote in message news:y44...@nestle.ai.mit.edu... > Thank you! > > What do the letters TT represent mnemonically?...

*sigh*
There is one correct way to display ascii art in an html page. That thing up there is
not it.
1. You should use the <pre> tag (and no other tags).
2. You should encode/escape "active" characters:
Change all & to & (including the semicolon)
Change all < to < (including the semicolon)
That's it. It works. Here's a little tool I made which does the work for you:
http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/cgi/ASCII-to-HTML/
Example:
<pre>
---- ascii ...---''' <<< && (((!!! #######
</pre>

Veronica Karlsson ( e93...@sm.luth.se http://www.ludd.luth.se/~vk/ )
tt isn't listed! What now?...
Are any of these tags possible?...
The weblog template provider indicates legal tags as
"You can specify which HTML tags are legal in messages
and stories on your site.

The problem seems however to be Weblog insisting on changing your input .. if you see the resulting source code you see that it adds spaces to the images and it also interprits some non-links as links.

I think I first saw the bug with a old IE 3 .. or maybe netscrape 3 , I've had reports that some old mac browsers did this too .. maybe the IE mac version. But it does (did) happen .. I have seen it with my own eyes and remember working to find a solution (found it in the TT's) None of my currently browsers show this bug.. but I only run two : IE 6 & Mozilla 9.5 (a somewhat up-to-date nightly build)

TeleType font, AFAIK. As in, the monospace font used by the old
teletypewriters that people used as computer terminals before glass
terminals came out.

A year or two is not ages , and it's not THAT incorrect .. it's just redundent code as PRE also specifies a teletype/monospaced font. If you look at the banner on your webpage you will see that I cleverly used the fact that <TT> does not use the same kind of formatting as <PRE> but merely changes the font to a monospaced. It would be the same kind of redundency if you specified a stylesheet that set the font to monospaced as it would be if you used <TT> 's even if you had used <PRE>. > Making thinks buggy because some broken software displays it correct > sounds somewhat awkward to me. Yep, I guess so. Stylesheet setting such stuff aren't really correctly used. That would be, specifying a font for <tt> or <pre> tags would be correct, but using a <div style=""> to get a monospaced font is wrong. But hey - we are all just idealists and perfectionists who live in the brave new world[tm] :) >> Rather report that brokenness > > Yeah like Microsoft ever listed to their users .. ha!
