Operating in a Unix environment with the usual editing stuff, nothing fancy;
is there any way of doing this easily:-

Having a file with two ascii-pictures, of about the same height, and each one
covering less than half the screen width, to juxtapose them side-by-side
on the screen?

It can be done laboriously line-by-line, but in the immortal words of
`The Candidate', "There *has* to be a better way!"

Thanks.

If you use emacs it is quite easy. You can use the commands
       kill-rectangle        and
       yank-rectangle
You have to type Meta-x followed by the commands. The rectangle is defined by
its upper left corner (marked by ctrl-space) and the lower right corner
(marked by the cursor)

Hope this is helpful.
