Fonts in Outlook Express

I'm sure this is a common problem, but I'm still not sure of the solution.

Outlook Express seems to display text in a font that makes ASCII art look
warped. This is really annoying for me since I can't appreciate any of your
lovely art :(

E-mail me at cwm...@geocities.com if you know how I could set up Outlook
Express so I can view ASCII art properly.

Me too, I have the same problem, with Outlook
Express....can anybody help??? I also have the

There only seems to be one solution. Cutting and pasting into Notepad.
Tedious, huh?

I'm not familiar with Outlook EXPRESS, but in the version of Outlook that comes
with "Office 97" there is a "formatting toolbar" where you can change your font.

You have to choose a non-proportional font, like courier. In Irc, best font
is fixedsys

I know I caught a post last week regarding artwork in or using Outlook
Express.

Is there a way to change the font so that I can view the artwork without
saving it to a text file?  Or is there an FAQ that explains this?  I used to
have this same problem when I was with AOL, too.

I used to read and sometimes contribute to this group a while back and would
like to be a part of it again.  I'm just hoping there's an easier way to
view the pics in the posts.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

and as a quick fix for outlook-excess... go to the menu-bar and select:
tools > options > read > fonts >
and set courier for both proportional and fixed.

courier isn't brilliant but it maybe all you can select at this time...

there is (i can send upon request) a registry patch to set outlook to
use the fixedsys font thru'out

for your sig in outlook... go to the menu-bar and select:
tools > stationery > news > font-settings >
and set to fixedsys (my preference:) and click 'ok'
then select:
signature >
and click the 'file' radio-button then click 'browse' and go to the
folder where you have the text file you have made containing your sig
and click on the filename and then click 'open' ...
then click on the little check-box labelled 'add this sig to all mesgs'
click 'ok'
click 'apply'
click 'ok'

next ... get hold of a copy of the FAQ

... mebbe we can persuade the FAQ-maintainers to post it weekly instead
of monthly ? ... dunno

anyway ... most if not all of these questions are answered therein ...
otherwise there are links to support-documents that do

I very much appreciate you taking the time to explain all this.  However,
I've already tried to change the font that way and all I see that it changes
is the font in the From and Subject section.

I'd rather not use that font throughout, just in reading NG posts.  Guess
nothing's perfect, eh.

VampLadee and anyone else. I have used Free Agent to read the
newsgroups for years. It uses FixedSys (or any other font you choose).
Its also free and available from all over the Net. Another nice thing
about it is the signature files. You seem to have an unlimited amount
of them and can select whichever one you want for each post.

into Notepad (Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad) and save it as
"oefixedsys.reg" (when in the save as window, type the quotes around it
otherwise it may save as oefixedsys.reg.txt.)

Find the file in Windows Explorer (ie Open 'My Computer', then navigate to
where you saved the file)  (it may be on the desktop)

Double-click the file just created, (make sure outlook express isn't running
at this point) and a message will appear saying that the information has
been entered into the registry. When you restart Outlook Express, it should
be in a proper asciiart friendly font.

If you are using multiple users on your computer, using Win95 profiles, this
will change the settings for the currently logged on user only.

      ** It has not yet been tested in Outlook Express with IE5 Beta! **

That bit about damage to your computer... if you follow the instructions,
and have Outlook Express from Internet Explorer 4, it should work like a
dream.

If not, try:
Tools Menu >>> Stationery >>> 'News' tab >>> Font Settings >>> Choose
FixedSys or your favourite Fixed Width font >>> OK >>> OK.

This won't set up a few other things though, like posting in plain text and
the like. If you do this you will have to set up the other options manually
yourself.
