This actually happened to me once, more or less. We were required to
go skiing in gym class shortly after I had moved up here. It didn't
snow much where I was born, so I had never stood on a pair of skis
before. No one ever showed me that there was a trick to skiing up a
hill; I guess they somehow expected me to know through the magic of
christmas or something. I got half-way up and then started to glide
backwards. I think lying bruised and cold in some bushes at the
bottom of the hill added quite a bit to my hatred towards winter.

I grew up right here in Kansas City. Almost dead center of the
continental US. It almost never snows without being preceded by two hour
of freezing rain. We get record breaking, head line setting, ICE STORMS.
Hmm, let's see. A "hatred towards winter" you say? Well pull up a chair
by the fire and lets raise a cup of hot chocolate to THAT one! ;)
