Iwonder if someone can make me an ascii art.
I want a marijuana leaf in colors.
I would appreciate it very much.

ASCII comes in 2 colors:
- foreground
- background

ASCII does not specify what they are.
On paper (Teletype!) usually the back is white, fore is gray.
On screen usually one of those is black, the other tends to often
be white, green or amber.

On the terminal I am writing this on it is fore=green, back=black.
Yes, I hate the black on white "paper emulation" stuff. Screens are not
paper! (ever screwed one up and thrown it in the waste screen basket?)

And yes, on such a setup the Web (and HTML mails/posts) can be a pain
in the ass (when they force back=white and leave fore undefined).


But wait ... ASCII has _3_ colors!

There also exists doublestrike (<char> <BS> <char>). That displays
here as yellow (overlighted green).

Then there is underlined (_ <BS> <char>). That displays light green
(and not underlined) here. Adjustable terminals are fun. :-)

The late Colin Douthwaite (who was a frequent poster to aaa) would have
been having apoplectic fits about your test. He regularly posted an
article stating that one should ONLY use characters 32-126 in the
newsgroups.

appear to be old and rusty but they can still display pure ASCII-art.
People who want to display their art work that uses nonstandard
characters MUST go to a different venue. (irc, website....)

And surprise! My old crappy Newsreader actually rendered them correctly!

Yes, I am highly surprised at that. I after all constructed them by
hacking directly the news server spool file.

Well that was the purpose of the test. :-)

My newsreader and newsserver survived it. Anyone had it go wrong? What
did it look like?

What did the control codes look like? Do I properly interpret that as
little boxes?

Aha. What I had expected to also see. Surprisingly my newsreader did what
the text said it should do.

Well <BS> is standard, ASCII char 8, but its interpretation by
newsreaders is most likely non-standard, at least among all these
newfangled browser based ones (and perhaps others also).

gone three or four days. It is good to know, that if'n I falls off

them teckno-freako-wads, with a plain, simple answer that works.

Hokay... So, I tried your colored-ascii trick. It works, swell, but
this picture has nothing to do with marijuana. It's Bambi, fleeing
across an open glen, wind swaying the grass, as a rabid herd of
marabunta mice race in pursuit. GREAT pix... but no pot.
