Hi ! Iwonder if someone can make me an ascii art. I want a marijuana leaf in colors. I would appreciate it very much. /Doggie
Ben Norwood <bdn...@aber.ac.uk> writes: > > Ascii-art is available in a grand total of two colours: > black > white Erm. Wrong. ASCII comes in 2 colors: - foreground - background ASCII does not specify what they are. On paper (Teletype!) usually the back is white, fore is gray. On screen usually one of those is black, the other tends to often be white, green or amber. On the terminal I am writing this on it is fore=green, back=black. Yes, I hate the black on white "paper emulation" stuff. Screens are not paper! (ever screwed one up and thrown it in the waste screen basket?) And yes, on such a setup the Web (and HTML mails/posts) can be a pain in the ass (when they force back=white and leave fore undefined). But wait ... ASCII has _3_ colors! There also exists doublestrike (<char> <BS> <char>). That displays here as yellow (overlighted green). Then there is underlined (_ <BS> <char>). That displays light green (and not underlined) here. Adjustable terminals are fun. :-) > As multicoloured text art is off-topic in this group, don't expect any > coloured images to be posted here. <BS> is ASCII character 8, so that would be on topic, but how many newsreaders will not crap on that one? Small test (should appear formated): ddoouubblleessttrriikkee _u_n_d_e_r_l_i_n_e Would doublestrike be allowed here? And underlining? -- Neil Franklin, nei...@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/

My old crappy Newsreader actually rendered them correctly! Yes, I am highly surprised at that. I after all constructed them by hacking directly the news server spool file. > > Would doublestrike be allowed here? So then this is alt.ascii-32-126-art :-). <sly remark> After all, ASCII (without any ANSI or HTML) is defined 0-127. </sly remark> > ...excerpt from WARNING: Control Codes **2nd REVISION** > : It can cause an awful lot of trouble on Net systems worldwide. Well that was the purpose of the test. :-) My newsreader and newsserver survived it. Anyone had it go wrong? What did it look like? > This is how your test appeared to me in my newsreader which did not > crash.... > > (control codes replaced by []) > > d[]do[]ou[]ub[]bl[]le[]es[]st[]tr[]ri[]ik[]ke[]e > _[]u_[]n_[]d_[]e_[]r_[]l_[]i_[]n_[]e What did the control codes look like? Surprisingly my newsreader did what the text said it should do. > ASCII-art in the newsgroup has two colours - foreground and background. OK. > There are so many doorways to the internet. Sans 0-31 and 127 :-). > People who want to display their art work that uses nonstandard > characters MUST go to a different venue. (irc, website....) Well <BS> is standard, ASCII char 8, but its interpretation by newsreaders is most likely non-standard, at least among all these newfangled browser based ones (and perhaps others also). -- Neil Franklin, nei...@franklin.ch.remove http://neil.franklin.ch/
