This is BluePard's response:

The likeness was unbelieveable. Her hair, my broken nose, everything.
I sent it to her. Her heart warmed. We talked for a long time, and I
believe that we have established a lifelong friendship, if not a
future together. BluePard, I owe you, I owe you, I owe you.

As things have happened, the woman who is the object of my affection
has given me something of enormous value (difficult to explain) in a
time of great personal difficulty. I would like to send her something
in the form of a personal "thank you". So, here is my request:

Can you re-diddle the drawing to show her carrying me? In a
figurative sense, she has done just that. BTW, she is a bit skinnier
than shown in the original picture.

If I sound like a silly romantic, it's true. I am. I still love her
even 25 years later. Thanks. Roy

[Struggling to hold back tears]

Thank you Roy, thank you thank you thank you. For from now on, if ever
anyone shakes their head disbelievingly at me and asks `what is the
point of ASCII art?', I will be able to show them my copy of your
message. It's this sort of post which makes being part of a.a-a
worthwhile.

As for the pic you requested, I will have a go myself if (a) I get the
time, and (b) BluePard hasn't posted one before condition (a) is met.
:-)

Bye

What is the point of ascii art? A personal email without art is like
.... like ... like a body with no soul.

Since January, I shamelessly exploited the work of ascii artists. I
scanned a.a-a each day and saved a very large inventory of drawings
for future use. I first sent her flowers which were of a "friendship"
nature [tulips, daffodils] -- careful -- not too personal just yet.
As we discussed our lives and travels in great detail -- before,
during and since the time we met -- I carefully selected drawings to
illustrate some aspect of each message [cats, temples, castles,
hummingbirds, sailing ships, mermaids, knots, etc]. I amused her with
cartoons [the Steins, Macarena lessons, cows]. I tantalized her with
great art [The Lovers, The Persistence of Memory, Girl with a Pearl
Earring]. As we became more intimate, I shifted to drawings with
romantic symbolism [orchids, roses, dancers, Kama Sutra (blush)]. My
poor words alone could never have succeeded. It was the art, almost
all from this NG. What is the point of ascii art? Indeed! - roy

MT, I have modified your drawing by replacing the original woman's
head. Ummm ... given our advanced age, I thought it prudent to
tighten her derriere a bit. Thanks greatly, roy

How could I refuse a request like this? It just makes me feel all mushy
inside ... :-)

Here's my attempt. I've tried to keep pretty much to the style BluePard
used for the original.

And I have to say that that is probably the picture I have most enjoyed
drawing in my short time as an ASCII artist. Copying BluePard's style
was an education in itself.

The credits, `mt-2 <BP', mean `Matthew Thomas 1998, after BluePard',
which I think is pretty fair -- I used the original pic to get the rough
proportions right, but didn't actually copy any of it.

You should spend more time studying roses, make some specially, add
a little poetry and post them to the " Computer Girls " you most
admire. Your talents will impress them and they will ask for more.

Be careful with the poetry though...perhaps just a rose from you
would be enough.

" Only a rose I give you." -- from the musical " Rose Marie ".

Just think of all the girls here on alt.ascii-art who already admire
you and you haven't sent any of them any roses. Or have you...
privately...by email? Hmmm. And...you are already in the voluptuous
Veronica's chatroom. :-)

Are you trying to tell something here? Don't you like my poetry? <g>

[the lousy poet]

   I've always thought that poetry
Just wasn't my cup of tea.
But I'm not doing that bad,
   Have I gone suddenly mad?

I've got the hang of it now
And would surely make some more
   If I wasn't afraid you'd say "Aw!
   He is such a bore"

I could't possibly start sending roses to "all the girls on a.a.a who
admire me" (please Colin send me a list), I'd be too afraid that Sandra
would terminate our internet account.
She already gives me that strange look when I'm in Veronica's chatroom.

The song above (The Rose) is by Amanda McBroom. Bette Midler sings it
in Mark Rydell's exellent movie: The Rose (1979)

Well the answer has been given by a couple of people:

Joris Bellenger wrote:

There is also another recorded version entitled "Perhaps Love" which
is a duet by John Denver and Placido Domingo. The lyrics have been
changed somewhat in that rendition.
