In Courier New, at least, that would look more symmetrical with two
underscores...
And maybe something that'll look more "continuous" from the edge of the
screen, too.. :)

Try tiling it, it should look 3d-ish, made of interleaved cubes.

I tried playing aroud with some fractal hexagons (Peano-Somebody islands,
haven't got a book handy to check the name right now) but while they can
be turned into a rather fancy background image, the ascii version doesn't
tile well at all. :-(
