i'm new to Ascii Art, but i'm really excited. i've enjoyed Ascii Art, though i didn't know what it was called, for a Long Time. i'm looking forward to becoming friends with all of you in the Future. i've read the Faq, but there are still a few questions i might have. if you could please point me in the right direction i'd really Appreciate it. first, i wanted an program to make Ascii Arts out of graphical images (like Gifs, Jpegs, &c). the Faq and other resources pointed me towards Gifscii, but all the Urls i found were obsolete, and a copy i did manage to find (through gopher i think) didn't work right on my unix box--it displayed the image on only one line and didn't show anything. second, i want to start making Ascii Art Comic Strips. are there any programs to make this task Easier? something that would place the Characters and make quote bubbles automatically and make sure that the quote bubbles don't bump into each other is what i'm Thinking. & lastly, are there any collections of Small Ascii Arts? by Small i mean smaller than maybe 8 columns by 5 lines. i'm looking for ideas for Characters and can use all the help i can get. thanks!!! There are some new ones around but they all suck. The best way to convert a graphical fromat to ascii is to do it the hard way,by hand. There ARE some ways to make this easier, like using a paint program's text tool to overlay the miage and draw the ascii ontop of the image,or use the image as a background in netscapes composer and draw the ascii ontop if the image,or anyother way you can think of allowing you to use a text processor with the image in the background. Here is an exam ple ofthat kind of thing. ,-------------------------------------------------. |;;;/`.;;;;;-_ `;;;`. `;;;;. ;;;;_,-"_;;;;;:;;;;| |;;; ,:;\;;;;;`. `;;;`. `;;;;. ;;;_-'" ;;;;;:;;;| |;; ;'....:-;;;;;-_`-~``-.:;;;;. ;; ;;;;;:;;;| |;.........__:-;;;;;-_ `;;;;_;----._ ;;; :;;;| |;.... ,-""____"-:::..`-._ .::`;;;-""""-.".;; ;;;| |;.. .-" : ;-._::::`"" ::',-" : ; ;-; ;;;| |;.. I havent ever heard of such a program. The best thing that most asci artists seee as a feature in a text editor in relation to the ones you are asking is "block mode".It is where you can cut and paste text in rectangles in stead of paragraphs. > & lastly, are there any collections of Small Ascii Arts? by Small i > mean smaller than maybe 8 columns by 5 lines. i'm looking for ideas for > Characters and can use all the help i can get.
