My Brother
alt.ascii-art
· 17 messages · 27 Sep 2003 - 1 Oct 2003
I have sad news. My name is Quong Nguyen and I am Tran Nguyen's younger brother. Last weekend Tran and I went out late to a Taco Bell for some food when we were caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting in downtown Oakland. Tears are streaming down my face as I write this because Tran pushed me down to safety behind his Honda. He died four hours later at the Alameda County Medical Center. The doctors said he was dead the minute he entered the emergency room but they did their best. I've never really read the internet but he always talked about his friends on alt.ascii-art and making his buffoonish cartoons. He also wrestled with his alcoholism which had haunted him since early high school and his way of overcoming this demon was through laughter. Tran's ashes were scattered over the Pacific on Tuesday in a traditional Buddhist ceremony. His ascii art "farts" will remain on the web for generations to come so he won't be forgotten.

I will sorely miss Tran's unique humor, which has become such a fixture here in alt.asci-art. I looked forward to seeing his "goofy" stuff every day. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family for the loss of your brother. Even though I have never had the pleasure of meeting Tran, I feel as though I knew him personally, and will always remember the laughter he inspired. Thank you for telling us about your brother. May his rebirth be met with the joy he gave in this life. Sharky

Because his website has been updated with new farts every day this week. If so, why doesn't it say anything about his death on his website?
Quong Nguyen wrote: [Tran dead] I was fooled by a wrong obituary in another newsgroup before, and so I am not prepared to believe this. The continuation of the website is evidence against it, so I keep waiting for further evidence. Joachim
There is a post on his site for friday the 26th. So no funeral tuesday unless the site auto-updates. A google search, news and regular turn up nothing. You'd think some peper that's online would mention this. Maybe somebody should try to post something Tran can't resist? 3ch ,~, ( u ) I CAN'T REMEMBER IF I CRIED /\o/\ THE DAY \| |/ THE ASCIIARTFARTER |-| DIED |^| b d

Gosh...been seeing his art work for years now..he did have a sense of humor... So sorry to read this and I'm sure he will be missed...all my condolences to you and your family... I pray to Buddha for Tran's soul, Whitey-san.

Let's have a contest to see who can do the best ascii picture of Tran
and his stupid Honda getting blown away.

Noooo. I don't think Tran is more than one person, though there may have
been bogus Tran posts. Tran also may post under another name, but I don't
think that's likely either.
Though has anybody ever seen Kirara and Tran together? Hmmm? They
-must- be the same person. Wearing two different disguises! Or is that
two people wearing one disgu... no, that wouldn't work. With two
different keyboards! One with a stuck cap lock!

Trust me, Colonel...
I can say with absolute
authority that Kirara is
definitely -NOT- Tran! Besides, I'm Japanese.

Look at the first few lines of http://www.asciiartfarts.com/farts.xml.gz It lists authors' initials and how many pictures they drew. The most common is "de" with 1179, but there are 9 others. -- | Harry Mason | .------------. | .___, |"Whatever you do will be | | University of | | hjm200 @ | | ___('v')___ | insignificant.
