Star Trek and Star Wars request

alt.ascii-art · 8 messages · 16 Jan 2003 - 26 Jan 2003
Hello,

Anyone with Star Trek and/or Star Wars related ASCII art please post
it. Also how can I make sure when I save ASCII art or send it in an
email message or post it in HTML on a website that it stays with the
same dimensions and does not do line wrapping or anything else that
could alter the original ASCII dimensions?

Try these:

http://www.ascii-art.de/ascii/s/startrek.txt
http://www.ascii-art.de/ascii/s/startrek1.txt
http://www.ascii-art.de/ascii/s/starwars.txt
http://www.ascii-art.de/ascii/s/starwars1.txt

In email, make sure your mailer is configured to send mail as plain text, and
automatic line wrapping should be disabled.

In HTML, put the picture inside <pre> </pre>. Also, if the picture contains
"<" characters, replace them with "&lt;".

Cool!

Great tips. Thanks Harry.

There are two sides to this, and both have to work.

1. The sending end
Make sure to send as "plain text".
Make sure you send it unwrapped (this may require some
experimentation to get to know how your software works,
e.g. if it forces wrapping at a certain width you'll have
to make sure the picture you send stays within this width,
and that includes space characters on the right side of it)
   Do not use tabs.

2. The receiving end
You must read with a monospaced font (or the pictures will
   be squished).
Turning off html usually helps too.

> or post it in HTML on a website

On a website, use <pre> and replace all < characters with &lt; and
all & characters with &amp;. You can do that in one step with this
little thing I made:

CGI:

Javascript:
