The 'author profiles' offered by DejaNews are one of the most powerful
research tools on the Internet. As far as I know, there's no simple
route to accessing them. The normal route is to find an article by the
author you're interested in, and then click the "Author Profile" button
at the bottom (or top) of the page.

But if you use it a lot, you can embed the following form on your own
page to simplify the process:

<form action="http://search.dejanews.com/profile.xp" method=post>
<input type="text" name="author" size="40">
<input type="submit" value="DejaNews Author Profile">
</form>

(Is there a name for such 'private home pages' that one normally
configures as a startup page on the local harddrive, was a more
convenient substitute for the bookmarks menu?)
