fixedwidth in web page...

How do I specify that my web page is to be viewed in a fixed width font?
I've used the following CSS:

.TEXT {
font-family: "Courier New", Courier, mono, monospaced;
font-size: 0.5em;
color: #000000
}

Is their anything else that should be set in order for fixed width fonts to
be set as the default font for viewing?

 Put your stuff between <pre></pre> tags, or use <tt></tt> for that. CSS
is a good try but not all browser can use it - especially netscape 4.X
has huge problems when it comes to stylesheets.  Don't forget to escape
the following special characters between these tags:

 & -- &amp;
 < -- &lt;
 > -- &gt;

 The rest should be fine and has no special meaning within HTML. If you
use search and replace be sure that you substitute & first with &amp;
before you substitute < and > for you might end up with crap if you do
it the other way round ;)

 Btw., what has this to do with ascii-art?  Some webcoding related
newsgroup would have been better.  Just because ascii-art is about
monospaced it doesn't mean everything about monospaced things is ontopic
in here.  At least you lacked an obASCII.

It's just that I may be putting some of my own ascii, on my site. Sorry if
it seems a little off topic, but the people at alt.html weren't helping my
plight [yet again]. So I thought I'd cut ot the chase and ask the good
people here, who evidently have the know how to solve the mystery of
applying fixed width in HTML - seeing as many people have ascii in their
sites.

what's obASCII?? Never heard of that before now.

And preferably original -- not a conversion or something you copied from
an ASCII art website. (There was a controversy about this a while back
because someone liked to post obASCIIs that weren't made by her.)
