Works for me, and it is actually quite good!
You just make a text file with 23 lines for each frame and use the txt2anm
proggy to make a .ANM file. then you type ascian8 filename.anm to view
the animation.
It`s a PC DOS program so if you are using something else that could be
why!
I made a QBasic program to generate anims of scrolly text and it made this
(please note blinking eyes were added afterwards, it wasn`t a very
advanced proggy!):
(You will need to copy the bit between the lines, without copying the
lines themselves.)

I had a look but unfortunately MSIE made complete shash out of it :(
I remember back to when I first discovered this NG and there was a big
tread all about this... was there a solution in the end??? (I didn`t pay
attention then because I was using Netscape 2!)
That ASCII animation looks a bit like this - but in a proportional font :)

As far as I know, these ASCII-animations work for Netscape Navigator 3.01 and Microsoft Explorer 4.0 that has Javascript enabled. They DON'T work in MSIE 3.0 because in their wisdom the MSIE people cleverly use a proportional font in the Javascript window.
