ASCII ART PROBLEM

I have a problem about ASCII art.
It is compatible with MS notepad and writepad.
However, they becaome distorted on ce they are
save as Word Doc.(Office 97) and in
internet expoler Internet Mail.
Any solution to that?
I would not want to send an attachment file
of ASCII ART.

Jeff--

You need to make sure that the font you are using is a "monospace" font
for ASCII art to work correctly.  Monospace means that each character
takes up the same amount of horizontal space.  That is,

OOOOO   and

iiiii  

take up the same amount of space.  An example of a monospace font is
COURIER.  Other fonts, i.e. Times New Roman, are not monospaced.  If you
try the above experiment in MS WORD with Times New Roman, you will find
the horizontal space taken up by the five O's will be greater than that
of the 5 i's.

So, bottom line, when you have ascii art in MS WORD, highlight it and
change the font to COURIER.

It might take more than a monospaced font. It might be impossible. For
one thing, you have to stop Word from converting spaces to tabs -- it
does this automatically when loading a text-only file, unless you
change a setting under Options or some such menu. It also occasionally
removes blank lines. They simply disappear, for no reason I can
ascertain.

Word is designed to, let us say, encourage you to use only MS file
formats.

Word is supposed to be able to read other word processors' files, but
strange things happen when it does this. In DOS WordPerfect I can
create a file with tab stops every 75 pixels on my printer so
everything lines up beautifully; Word, which is installed for the same
printer, will open the file all right, but the tabs stops become
irregular and nothing lines up right.

Using Word is asking for trouble.

Hello Jeff,
If you paste ASCII Art in MS programms, be shure that it uses a NON true
type font like courier.

Its important that the reciever of mails does this too, if not, he will
recieve rubish.

You must use a monospaced font, that is a font where all charaters
have the same with ! i.e. Courier !

how about using something like dos to look at ascii art...stupid windows
crap
ce is the worst of them all followed by bos (95)
win 3.1 is acceptable but avoided at all costs...

Change your font to Courier and it should be solved.

It's because of the type and/or size of the fonts that WordDoc uses as
opposed to Notepad.
