It might take more than a monospaced font. It might be impossible. For
one thing, you have to stop Word from converting spaces to tabs -- it
does this automatically when loading a text-only file, unless you
change a setting under Options or some such menu. It also occasionally
removes blank lines. They simply disappear, for no reason I can
ascertain.

Word is designed to, let us say, encourage you to use only MS file
formats.

Word is supposed to be able to read other word processors' files, but
strange things happen when it does this. In DOS WordPerfect I can
create a file with tab stops every 75 pixels on my printer so
everything lines up beautifully; Word, which is installed for the same
printer, will open the file all right, but the tabs stops become
irregular and nothing lines up right.

Using Word is asking for trouble.
