If your newsreader decides to make it into a link, then fair enough, but there's no way to define links in a plain-text newsgroup posting. For me, it's not a link. Neither is this: http://users.breworld.net/m/martin.atkins/asciiart/ In some newsreaders, URLs must be enclosed in <> pointy brackets to be classed as URLs. In fact, I seem to remember that some RFC defines that you should quote URLs as: <URL:http://users.breworld.net/m/martin.atkins/asciiart/> What does your newsreader make of that? In practice, it's basically irrelevant. People read newsgroups. I'm sure most people can identify an email address and know what to do with that address in order to send a message to someone. In fact, some browsers think that blah@blah or /\//\\@.'-. is an email address and should be a link. But who cares what a program thinks?
