an ascii question

I like ascii art but what do you do with it??? What can you use it on???

well, what do you do with a painting,
or any other art form-
just look at it and appreciate the beauty,
and acknowledge the adroitness of the artist.

in my opinion, rather than finding
any practical use to asci art,
it should be appreciated  just 
as a great  art form.

Ascii-art is fun in itself, but it has two special advantages for me.
One is that you can create a simple line shape suggesting what you want
when, even with drawing software, you might not have the skills to put
together a realistic drawing of something like my drowned dog.

Also, you can put artwork into a presentation with no more bandwidth
than text uses, to go wherever text goes when there's no agreed way
to mix images into the text: for example, signatures in email
and title pages on (text only) bulletin boards.

One of my first questions... but since I've been making the ascii
pictures, I found that it really is used ...it can be sent in email
messages and greetings...  ( many times pictures cannot be sent in mail
programs)...  It can make "dry" reading more enjoyable.  It can liven up a
birthday, holiday e-card...  Ascii art is used on signatures and in
headers for email newsletters and e-zines.   Or you can just look at it--
what's the purpose of hanging a picture on the wall?

btw, I've also know people to print the pics and create coloring pages for
their kids or students.  I've also been contacted by art teachers who are
interested in adding ascii art into their curriculum.  So I guess there is
a demand for the pictures...
And I'll keep making them!

i'm no expert here but ascii art is specially nice on a non-graphical
environment, so if like instead of sending pictures ascii can make up for

Reasons for ascii art:

1  Coloring books for kids and adults
2  Class descriptions of things and science (easily emailed).
3  Holiday or birthday email greetings.
   (Some systems don't accept Attachments of .gifs, etc...)
4  BBS and MUDD and MOO Screens.
5  Mayny people only have internet access with Lynx or other
   non-graphical web browsers, (Like Freenets or many of
   the university systems.) so ascii art makes pictures!
6  Get well emails.
7  One line ascii-art can be sent on IRC.
   (Some Web IRCs don't like the pipe symbol tho - |)
8  E-zines and .signature files use ascii-art.
9  Appreciate the beauty or thousands of other emotions.
10 Ascii helps to send very effective email flames!!
