[IDEA] Comprehensive Ascii Art Network

  I am not an ascii artist but I appreciate it. Many artists have personal
websites devoted to personal ascii-art. I am not sure whether there is a
comprehensive ascii art search engine or not. If none, I wonder the possibility
to build one. I think it to be a good idea. While artists create accounts
and publish their works, other users can enter keywords to find related pieces.
Even, XML interface can be developed for users to directly download or upload
ascii art. Of course, artists still can keep developing their websites, 
but this engine may reduce users' time and help promote artists' works. 
This pattern is widespread in Informatics field and I guess it works in 
ascii art too.

Well, www.ascii-art.de has many, many, many arts.  However, I feel it is a bit
"cluttered."  Making something like you suggested, where you can browse by artist,
category, etc, seems like a great idea.  I say go for it!

In general only. Using "ascii art" however is a board range to find what one 
may be looking for, assuming you would type in dogs or cats an be directed 
to a site/page that only has ascii pictures of these would be great an toooo
easy ;)

Would the search even pick the odd pages where is only piece of ascii art 
work is displayed ?

Ascii-art.de cluttered ? I do not think so. Its got a great lay out

http://search.cpan.org/ is a good pattern to follow, and 
http://ascii-art.de/ is rather static.

Yes, the overall layout is fine, but I'm talking specifically about the listings, like
http://www.ascii-art.de/ascii/#ab, for example.  All the arts are in one big paragraph,
and is a bit confusing.

And yes, I know I can use Ctrl+F to find what I want, but maybe I don't want to :)

Still in disagreement here, a dictionary has many forms and this
is one that I happen to like. As it grows more ------ maybe some 
more sepration is needed as collection grows (should keep my thoughts
to myself)

I think it is better to have a search feature, and then each art can be
given many keywords (bad example: dog, canine.)

Why the separate upper and lower case organisation for the authors?

Also, I think it is always a good idea to have a page with all the authors
on one page... i.e. so you can save it to your hard drive or something.

And I assume there will be a search by keyword functionality eventually?
