a problem with my sig

can anyone tell me why the 2nd line of my atomic-sign seems to be too much
right, but only when I read my posted messages, when I write them it looks
right.

P.P.S.: If someone can give me a better version of that sign, maybe more
circle-like, that would be great

But if I read messages from this or other newsgroups, and if there is only ONE SPACE and after it a letter or something, OE doesn't show that first space. As you can see above, that sometimes makes pictures ... difficult to look at. I can solve the problem for me. OE is quite a good piece of software, big companies have paid Microsoft megabucks for site licenses, servers, etc. It is also downloadable for free for private/non-commercial use. OE's use is therefore quite massive and increasing, and as makers of ascii pics we better take its idiosyncrasies into account, like it or not. OE for Windows does have the problem of eliminating one space at the beginning of each line, and the safest solution is indeed to move the ascii pic two spaces to the right. Another safe solution is to begin each line with a character, like using panels, see my sig for example. OE for the Mac does not have this "eliminating one space" problem, but the above solutions do not harm Mac users. OE for the Mac does have a peculiarity if you use the Monaco font with it. In that case, the linespacing is not just one line height, but almost one and a half line heights, which makes the pics appear tall and slender. The effect is not always bad, i.e. it can even make the pics look better! But again, it is good to be aware of this peculiarity. If you use any other fixed width font with OE for the Mac, the above peculiarity does not appear. ========================================================= [] .oo Visit the Gallery of the 'steins! The only solution is the one you`ve already found. All I can suggest is that you download and install Forte Free Agent from www.forteinc.com - It`s slightly harder to configure but it is a dedicated newsreader and so has many options that I always said 'I wish Microsoft News could do...' including the kind of box thing I use for message quotes... This is a newsgroup about ascii-art, after all. There are some freeware newsreaders that you could download and then you won't have to use Outlook Express anymore for reading the news. You can try: Forte Free Agent http://www.forteinc.com/agent/freagent.htm or WinVN http://www.ksc.nasa.gov/software/winvn/winvn.html No doubt, there are others, but we have both of these on our computer and like them both. Neither of them are huge programs so won't take up too much room on your computer. Hope that helps you, because as you say, you cannot expect people to cater to the whims of one company that suddenly decides that if we put one space at the beginning of a line, we don't really mean it. In the meantime, as you use outlook express, make sure that you put at least two spaces at the beginning of lines if you have one space lines. (Sheesh, that's an awkward sentence!) You cannot turn off that feature with outlook express. Your only recourse is to write to the company so that they will eliminate that cunning little feature in their next upgrade.
