Not every computer can display full ascii. that is they don't have the full 
127 ascii charcters. For instance the VIC20 does not have the | pipe 
character. But you can subsititue the special graphics characters that such 
systems have for the missing ascii ones in some cases. The commodore series 
has a whole heap of special characters.

It would take a little bit of work to convert ascii to such a system but it 
could be done.

You might have trouble with some older computers like the C64. The C64 only 
has 40 columns of data across. So you will need to pick something small.
