ASCII Art Auctions?

I was reading the discussion page on ascii art in the Wikipedia and came
across this proposal:

"ASCII Art Gallery
I propose the development of an ASCII Art Gallery, showcasing the finest
works from all schools of ASCII art (including the controversial
neo-symbolistic and "leet" pseudo-style). A professional ASCII art curator
would be ideal, however I realize the appropriately experienced are in rare
supply. I am willing to donate some works from my private collection, some
of which were purchased from the most notable ASCII art auctions in the

... for that matter, how does one determine if a work of ASCII art is
legitimate or counterfeit? And what exactly would be auctioned? A
print-out? A text document on floppy disk? Perhaps just a string of
bytes with no medium...
