Plenty of groups are like that. Your newsreader almost certainly gets the information from the server when it gets the newsgroup name. It is a shame that so few bother displaying this info to the reader. -- Graham Drabble If you're interested in what goes on in other groups or want to find an interesting group to read then check news.groups.reviews for what others have to say or contribute a review for others to read.

I will have to look into this. When your news reader updates its group list, it does not only get the name of the group, but as well article counters (so that it can show an estimate of how many articles will be in that group) and a flag - which can be y (unmoderated), n (no posting allowed) or m (moderated). Unfortunately, most readers ignore that flag. Look at 40tude Dialog (www.40tude.com) - this news reader will show a microphone icon next to every moderated group and a hand icon next to every read-only group. (BTW I think Dialog is one of the best news readers available - when you look at functionality. It is a bit buggy sometimes, but that might be because it is still beta.) obMiniMicrophone: .-. .'-' .'-. .' |\ Michael -- My PGP Key: User ID: Michael Schierl <sch...@gmx.de> Key ID: 0x58B48CDD Size: 2048 Created: 26.03.2002 Fingerprint: 68CE B807 E315 D14B 7461 5539 C90F 7CC8 http://home.arcor.de/mschierlm/mschierlm.asc
