I hope this isn't too intrusive. I've seen discusion of GIF converters for IBM 
platforms, but in my search for a Mac platform I haven't seen anything.

Is that because it doesn't exist?

The best I can come up with is a ascii paint program, which is productive, but 
involves some work.
