Good idea. My definition of ascii art is simply pics made with a keyboard.
That is the artform in which individual styles exist.

ascii is blessed with myriads and myriads and myriads of media, i.e. you can
display ascii pics in .txt or .doc or .gif or .html etc etc etc.

I myself routinely move ascii code back and forth between a variety of
(web-related) media to play with the ascii pics that appear in these media and
to experiment with the capabilities of these media (such as animation.) That
is what I meant with techniques closely related to media.

>How do we go further from here?

Well, in contrast to the myriads and myriads and myriads of media that ascii
is blessed with, the ascii community has limited itself to the .txt medium and
treats the .html medium as a necessary evil to display ascii pics on the web.

This is a self-limiting behaviour of the ascii community that has led to
lively debates ;-)) in the past. And if I said things like "the ascii
community does not take advantage of the full potential of the .html medium"
then there was guaranteed somebody jumping up and down ;-)))

But, I was merely stating facts based on first hand experience with the ascii
artform in a variety of media. Anyway, I have posted many lengthy articles
showing means and ways for the ascii community to go beyond .txt and .html and
utilize other media.

Reviewing what I just wrote, I think I sound more like a prophet or researcher
than a politician ;-))
