Blame it on regional differences.  When you have a native East-coaster living
in the Midwest who has a Chinese background, you're bound to get interesting
nuances in one's pronounciation ;P  Yes, I do say "abbitt" along with a number
of others here...along with wadder, oarange (one syllable), and tom-ay-to ;)
